In this video I build an outdoor kitchen .This has been one of my favorite projects so far . I use it all the time and it's a joy to cook on . food always tastes so good outside! I pour a little concrete and build a block grill. I turn an old slab of pine into a nice outdoor counter top, and I cook some really tasty burgers.

A man who cleans his tools is a real man. I'm almost 60 now and I grow up with my Dad a carpenter and my grandpa a survivor of the Great depression both taught me me take care of your tools and they'll take care of you.

Very nice! I’m going to build an outdoor kitchen this summer. It will be made entirely of adobe. Have already over 90 9x7.5x3 bricks made all by hand. Using the clay soil and arroyo sand for the bricks. Will use your design or very similar. Good work!

I used to find myself more attached to stuff until i learned how to make it myself - now I think 'even if i lose X, i didn't lose the skill i learned to build it'. I had to move recently and leave a lot of stuff behind and the stuff I made was the easiest to let go of because it was a result of skill I STILL had rather than the result of $ i paid which I'd have to re earn to rebuy.

The secret to cooking on a griddle is to create several heat zones. For your setup that can be accomplished by where you place the coals under the griddle and how many. I would also suggest a 3/16 inch metal tray to put your charcoal or wood in. This will make cleanup a lot easier and the most important thing is it'll prevent your cement blocks from cracking. The blocks that you have chosen are not heat resistant and are susceptible to cracking and falling apart from high heat. Just my thoughts.

This is great, thanks! I ended last year (literally - signed the papers on the 30th of December) by buying four acres of land. However, we do not have anywhere near enough money yet to actually move there (like, even if I could build a house myself, it'll be a while before we can afford the raw materials), and so I've been thinking about smaller things we can do to enjoy our land in the meantime. An outdoor kitchen was definitely something on my mind, but I was thinking of doing something much more primitive - literally just a stack of bricks. This is inspiring me to do more. That having been said, when you started cooking your burger... let's just say that watching that, in the coldest days of February, with the earliest good weather for outdoor cooking being months away, that produced some mixed emotions ;).

@@elizabethturpin2562 Thanks for the advice! There is actually a building on the neighbouring property that looks like it could do for a while, if the owner would let us rent it, as it's literally ten metres from the boundary of our property. No thats actually a knife I built . back when he was making knives he asked me if I wanted to start a knife shop together and it sounded great so I started making knives too and I really enjoy it . we didn't end up doing that because I think it was Brooke that wisely reminded us that going into business with family or friends can potentially ruin that family or friendship . and I think that was really good call I wasn't ready at the time . But yeah it's one of mine all the knives I've used in my videos are ones I've made . I really like the MMM-USA griddle, went to the website to check them out. A little pricey however it will last forever made of thick 304 SS.. Good job. Give an update after a while, I am curious as to whether cinder blocks will hold up to the heating/cooling cycles. I would have thought a layer of fire brick in the fire box areas would make it last longer....no cracking.
@blackspruce1861
@blackspruce1861 Год назад
Yes that griddle is pretty awesome . I put a little butter on it and hardly anything stuck to it . super heavy duty I bet it weighs probably between 15 and 20 pounds. I agree fire brick would be a good idea , but I was on a bit of a budget . I think having a layer of solid block on the bottom and sides of the fire box will be sufficient for a while I don't think the cinder blocks will get a lot of heat being under the solid block. I definitely should have used refractory mortar but at 50 bucks a bag I wasn't buying it if it breaks I will upgrade later

Thats great !. I don't remember the amount of any of the materials. its 2'x4'. I think I went 4 rows high of 8'block. Really it might be nicer if it was 1 row shorter, that would depend on how deep in the ground your footing is. I think around 15 4x16x8'' solid block the footing has to be a bit bigger than 2x4 2'6''x4'6 ''would workaround 9 bags of redi mix for that . a bunch of 2x4x8 standard block and some mortar I used a redimix style for that too. found the grate on amazon . the griddle is MMMUSA
