I don't think the bike is that small. Pretty average really. I bet it does just as well as any other bike. I hear bikes that are too big can hurt and smaller bikes can be way better. As long as you're good at riding the bike it doesn't matter how small it is.
And remember, it’s best to wear a helmet when riding a bike. If you are familiar the course and both you and the course have been tested you may be able to skip the helmet. Just don’t build another course of you can’t afford the maintenance.
Shorts are the worst thing to ever happen to RU-vid. Google still can't seem to figure out that they don't NEED to have their own version of everything on the Internet. Let TikTok be TikTok and RU-vid be RU-vid, PLEASE.
Forget the 500 shorts, just about any other channel would have made 2-5 long form videos out of every iteration of the bike. The amount of work Shane packs into a single video is just astounding.
@@mentoska7427 They are a for profit company. If you want to have a "world record" just call 'em up, mail 'em a check, and they'll dream up something to give you a certificate for.
Spends all sorts of time, energy, and resources making a tiny bike. Takes it off a "ramp" consisting of scrap lumber hastily stacked together. I approve.
I love her attitude so much 😃 She's a healthy pinch of European skepticism to Shane's American “I can do anything”-ism. I would love to see a Mark Rober-video, where he has to pitch ideas to her, using his over-the-top children's tv-show-level of enthusiasm 🙂
I'm all too familiar with that stare. She wants more family picnics, not inventions. But you are not alone Broski!! We love every one of your children!
I think her unimpressibility is what drives him. He desperately wants her approval and admiration and she is very miserly with it (it also could just be a bit for the channel😄).
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING! Definitely could have pulled off riding the small pedal versions with climbing shoes and a bit more learning of basically standing on the tips of your big toes.
If you're going to go fancy engineered shoes, why stop at climbing shoes engineered for climbing. Real racing cyclists have shoes that clip into the tiny pedals, why not engineer some shoes that clip onto the tiny pedals of the tiny bicycle?
There is no reason for me, a nearly 40 year old corporate engineer to comment, other than I want to say you are really good at this. I wish I had not only the manufacturing aptitude but also the creativity that you have. It is so good. You are wildly above average.
The engineering on this channel is the best part. Less sensational noise and more solid engineering, showing and explaining, makes this the best RU-vid channel in the space.
I think one of the best parts is the fact that he spends days, or even weeks practicing, just to be able to use his own engineered stuff to showcase it to us, like he could have just made the small bike, and rode it like 1cm to show it works, but nah, he rode the smallest bike to a couple of feet at least
I just adore how you found a way to make your favorite person (wife) one of the favorite characters in your episodes😂 they wouldnt be nearly as funny without her
@@Simon-tr9hv That one is tall. What about long? And for it to really be a bike it needs to have only two wheels. I think it should be easier than this one. At least you'll have space for things, like linkages to the front steering column from a good 50 feet away. A good chance to teach about bridges because it would be a spanning problem. The longest would probably need some gyroscopes because above a certain weight keeping it balanced becomes a challenge for a human.
@@JasonMitchellofcompsci I'd wager to bet the guys that do top speed runs on bicycles on the Bonneville Salt Flats up in Utah probably have some longest bike frames currently. They would certainly be a wealth of knowledge on this subject.
I think my favorite part of your channel is the barometer for success is “What does my wife think?” You are doing some phenomenal work through learning, applying, problem solving, solving the new problem created from solving the last problem, and so on. But it is all for not if your wife isn’t impressed. I love it!
Whenever I boast to my wife about something I’ve achieved in my software product, she says, “Remind me what it does again.” And that’s after 21 years of working on the same product.
Me being a 2001 kid and remembering all of the "WORLDS SMALLEST BIKES" in the Guinness book of world records, i never thought id see you attempt this challenge. This is awesome.
What Mrs. Made Here sings at 3:51 is Julius Fucik's Entry of the Gladiators. Clearly, this is appropriate music for Mr. Made Here's heroic accomplishment.
I know that woman (Maria Angelina Alexander) If you were born and raised in new York you'd know too, she's my family's Broker for 3yrs till now and a very good one if you asked me. No doubt she is the one that helped you get where you are!!!!
At your next subscriber milestone you should make a video where you remake some of your earliest projects using all your new equipment as a way to reminisce on your channel’s history and show how far you’ve come!
Right, I hate shorts that r mini shorts too get u to subscribe but than there's too many to find anything on that channel so I just dislike & leave a comment, & I actually love shorts just like vines. &I agree this was a little short, he glazed over the scooter wheel converted into a driven wheel, that was like the best part, & the rubber belt is possible :\
Now this is creative valuable content that most 99% of other RU-vidrs/content creators fail to make. Bro I can tell you worked you Aaa OFF! And to also have a wife like that to motivate you to do the impossible. Great channel!!
Your shoes were the problem for the pedals... what you needed were proper climbing shoes (and not the crappy rental ones either, and wear 2 sizes smaller than you think you should... they need to be as tight as possible). They're designed for tiny ledges / footholds, making them ideal for tiny pedals. Also, could you not have gone with multiple belts instead of a chain? I'm still impressed you got this far though, especially with those shoes.
Agreed with this. He's having problems micromanaging the pedals with compliant shoe soles. Stiff climbing shoes would work. So would road bike cleats that clip into the pedals.
As my profile picture suggests, i rode a unicycle to school throughout middle and high school, and the challenges you were facing were very reminiscent of learning how to ride a unicycle. I reckon you could ride a unicycle by the end of this project!
Ok, but did you secure the new world record yet? Seriously awesome video. This kind of stuff should not make me so happy, but it does. And the way you lay out everything you did and the failures on the way really makes your work top notch. Thank you!
Unfortunately Guinness World Records isn't really that interested in keeping accurate records. If you want to beat a record on there you have to apply and pay for a verifier to come out for it, which people say costs around $10,000 though I don't know the true price.
Take the bike there and ride it around in front of their corporate offices until they are forced to come out and deal with the crowds watching you ride the world's smallest bike.
@@JokingJames2 Fortunately, being registered with guinness isnt a requirement for holding the record. just because they dont acknowledge something, doesnt mean it isnt the record
This channel is the very gold standard of going down the rabbit hole! I very much appreciate your commitment. Your wife playing the straight man in the comedy duo is always a good laugh. Thanks for the videos I enjoy them very much!
One might think the genius and engineering is the star of this channel, but this man’s wife is the cornerstone of what makes this channel so incredible. This man could cure cancer and his wife would say “good I guess, but I’ve got a cold and you’ve done nothing to help me”.😂😂😂
Hi Shane! I'm starting third semester of mechanical engineering in a few days, and just wanted to let you know that you have been a huge inspiration for me! Thank you so much for quality content! Love from Denmark
Your content never ceases to amaze me. You go from crazy computer controlled devices to straight mechanical. You're the Devinci of our time. Plus your wife is hilarious.
Da Vinci wouldn't waste his time on stupid things like this. He would also be trying to make something beautiful. I encourage you to actually learn about Da Vinci.
My favorite thing about this channel is the trying ideas, finding flaws and working out solutions to them. It really itches a specific part of my brain.
Yeah this is a classic example of the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. 🤔 if that makes sense. I really couldn’t care less about the world’s smallest bike, so the finished product isn’t interesting to me. But this guy bringing engineering and coding and 5 axis milling into the picture is so enthralling.
When he landed the jump I loosed a "yoooo!" and sat up straighter. The skills to design, build, and iterate on these bikes? SUPER impressive (there must be petabytes of footage of head-desking and shouting "oh come ON!" from this project). Then grit to put in heaps of hours of work to learn how to actually ride it... and then take one off a jump? That's on a whole other level.
The "It should fit you really well then" was probably the hardest I've laughed watching the channel, and it always makes me laugh. Awesome work on this vid. Love you guys.
At some point (around the 13 minute mark) you just made a tiy unicycle with a blip for a second wheel to technically make it a bicycle. Super cool project, hats off to you, sir!
@@nobodyelse-h6hmark explained the situation in his video 🤦🏻♀️ it was a coincidence that they happened to be working on it at the same time, and mark was already working on it before shane’s video released.
@@mountaindrew2241 That is not true, Mark did copy This guys idea. I think it was a douche move. But at least Mark mentioned him which may have benefited his channel in some way.
Dude, i dont know how much you make from these vids or how much the sponsor gives you or if you have a professional job at some company, but it is unbelievable how much work you put into each of these vids and i cant help but think you srent compensated nearly enough for qhat you are actually making. This would be an amazing tv series or show for some streaming service, but instead its a youtube channel. Not sure whats in store for the future but i hope that you never stop, these are probably some of my favorite content on the internet! ❤
Your dedication to including a freehub is hilarious to me. Like, it's the plan to coast down big hills? Lol, if any bike could just as easily be a fixie, it's this one. But, well done!
Actually the opposite. This is HARD to pedal....he NEEDS it to coast whenever he needs to balance or his foot cant go over the top. Without coast, this would be 100% impossible to ride.
But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen- that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles. Acts 26:22-23
There are people struggling to work in one branch of engineering. This dude works with michanics, electronics and softwares. This is the skill level I want to be at. He is the upgraded version of Mark Rober.
Rober can do this too....but he doesn't have to. They're totally different talents for different reasons. And Rober doesn't do many videos......if he made videos about design and failures and machining and making......he could do a lot more vids.....but his recipe for videos is much different.
@@ian3580 Ofcourse he can, it's not that I look down upon the NASA guy. I am inspired by both of their skills. Marks doesn't show the hardwork that goes into his projects.
@@QazWsx-sn3bn He doesn't, you're right.......and he could pump out WAY more videos if he did....but that's his formula. Which is interesting.....because a lot of us would gladly watch the 'boring parts, even if it was extra on Nebula or something.
Its so nice seeing how much more comfortable they are at just being themselves in vids. They were really camera shy at first. Now we are getting "Your face could be smaller." lines now. I love it.
You have no business having such high end tools. I've worked at companies with less hardware than you. I respect it. Edit: Brilliant is a solid resource. I've learned coding through it, and made my first video game.
Sorry, but if any of y'all aren't subscribed to this channel... this guy acquires some of the most incredible machinery and tool manufacturing equipment that exists - with the full intent of using it. I'm not sure if the 5-axis cnc was an aquisition or a rental but jeez, this channel is great.
your enthusiasm and drive for these kind of inventions are what makes you and your content truly special. I always look forward to when a new "Stuff Made Here" video pops up on my feed, because it is by far my favorite RU-vid channel
@Hatomix I was waiting for someone to mention this, but I still think 3 gears would be more durable than 2 gears and a chain? I could be flat out wrong tho...
These videos are always top notch entertainment, but I love how you always highlight the iterative process and how important it is to not give up and keep learnig Also Wife's commentary is always on point but even though her "character" is supposed to be 100% sarcastic and unimpressed I love how in each video there is always a little moment when she cant avoid dropping the act and rooting for you, it's a really sweet wholesome moment every time it happens Both of you have a great day!
Thank you for your videos. I enjoy watching them and each one is an example of motivation and hard work. Thank you for creating great content and inspiring others.
A few years ago, I used to watch your stuff and think I would never be able to design and manufacture my own stuff. Now, I'm actually creating and selling some of my creations. Sometimes I re-do parts so many times that I think I may not be cut out out for this. And then I remember that even the smartest of people go through iterative changes when they are working on designs. Thank you for inspiring me and helping me see my project through!
17:28 my favorite moment omg "Are you satisfied" -shane sprawled on the ground exhausted from doing tiny bike trick shots just because his wife asked him to 17:40 the smile of satisfaction too omg so wholesome T-T
Dude, whenever you post, I stop what i am doing and watch!!! You are the best engineer on youtube! Edit: ok, maybe the whole world, i have no clue how you do this all by yourself!!!
If you're not concerned about the height of the bike, why not have a much longer front stem so you don't have to be doubled over to reach the handlebars?
Just above your feet is the best place for the handlebars, and the only place that actually allows you to ride the bike. If you extend the handlebars up, they either interfere with the movement of your legs or if you move them too far up, you would be basically standing and your center of mass would be shifted back making it incredibly hard to balance. You could possibly give the handlebars a forwards rake, but then that brings into question whether or not it's actually a bike anymore, since the handlebars would protrude ahead of the front wheel, and, if it is, would the "length" of the bike still just be the wheelbase, or would it be from the rear wheel to the front edge of the handlebars? Since, if you only care about the wheelbase length, you could make a perfectly balanced regular sized frame on top of a very tiny wheelbase and call it the "smallest bike in the world"
@@TheRealBlueBeanie I like to think it's so the handle bars don't move beyond the wheelbase while providing angle for caster. But the pedals reach beyond the wheel base, and the handle bars don't strictly need caster. Maybe it's just a silly record because of the absurdity of it all means you pick and choose. Theoretically, if it didn't matter you could set up a huge rider's triangle and actually have a seat and bars you lean into. I can't imagine trying to balance on that. Nor the one he made haha. My other thought it that the human interface can be larger. Anything that wouldn't be changed for rider size is what actually counts.
Someone from Guinness has to come out and verify the record. I'm surprised he didn't have that done here, unless the record specifies something else he didn't mention here.
