Part 1 of building the armoury/vault from Batman 1989 is finally here!
This is a 3-part-build series and what an exciting project it is!
In Part 1, I use XPS foam to build around 70% of the diorama and finishing off Part 1 using clay to get the rock effect I am looking for.
In Part 2 I will be taking a mould of one of the heads, casting it (most likely in resin) and hollowing out the head, removing the face and eyes so that I can display the figure as if it is waiting to be worn by The Mighty Keaton, BATMAN. I will also make my own custom cape.
Part 3 will be building the vault and paint the rest of the diorama.
I intend to expand on this diorama later in the year and include the bat-computer area as well.

So there is a whole lot of resources here on youtube for terrain for warhammer 40k, a bunch of rock techniques done with insulation foam and hot-wire cutters but the one you might want to explore is the use of silicone molds of rocks for casting plaster as well as some of the techniques for painting up plaster to look more like real rocks.

Same here. I’ve always said if they bring back the Batmobile I’d go for it. Although, I didn’t go for the base as I’ll probably build my own set piece for it, haven’t decided yet. And I have no idea where the Batmobile is going to live 🤣

Matt, that's gonna look awesome 👌 👏 . I wanna seehow you gonna make the cape and what material you use for that. I'll most probably copy that myself cos mezo cape is like an open umbrella 🌂 , good for photography and well ok for display in certain poses but that's it. I'm looking forward to seeing the final video. Great job mate.

Yeah, both the Mezco capes are a little underwhelming and personally I think a little too short. When it comes to making the cape, I’ll make sure the materials I use and methods are clear in the video so others can follow if they like 👍 Thanks for watching

You can use a bootleg neca, the cowl is removable and is very cheap unlike the mezco

Yeah, definitely. XPS foam should be available at most hardware stores, it’s pretty easy to pick up. I think the thickness I’m using is around 1/4 inch thick or there abouts.

@@MattandTheRetroRoom Amazon has precut squares at various thickness. Apparently, perforated xps isn’t a thing in the US lol

Oh, really? That’s weird. The one I chose was for under-lay for hard flooring, maybe look for something like that?
