I've been watching train layout builds this entire year in preparation to build my first HO scale layout and this is by far the best I've seen. Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to see more progress.

Wow, thanks for the compliment! There are lots of great videos about model railroading, with expert advise and opinions, but I thought a series about a beginner struggling through the process could be a help to others as well.

@@WhiteRiverLine Yes, i also just wanted to add the same compliment as above. I found your videos yesterday at work and quickly subscribed. I'm now also following on facebook & Instragram. Wife has given me permission for a medium shelf-based layout in a corner of our basement. Thank you for making this !!

i can understand not wanting to rip the 1x4 to 3 inches. just a thought you could have cut 1 inch notches into the 1x4 to lower the top one inch. 🤔
@WhiteRiverLine
@WhiteRiverLine 2 года назад
Since I knew I was just going to use 1x4s for the web all the way around, I just accounted for that when building my brackets and legs. It was just easier that way.

Off to a great start! I like how you tested the strength of your work. It should be able to withstand a few locomotives now. Haha. LOVE your editing. No easy feat. Well done. I look forward to following along and good luck with more subscribers. -Mark

Great video! I am new to the hobby and will be starting my benchwork soon. The L girder design I like and haven’t noticed before. Digging up scapes from the garage is a move out of my playbook 👍. Really looking forward to seeing all your videos. Thanks for taking the time to share your work! It really helps someone new to the hobby like me. Starting to get paralysis by analysis, worried I’m going to do something wrong in my design/planning. Thanks again and best of luck on the subscriber climb, I see a bright future ahead 🔮

Thanks. There is all sort of advice and opinions out there and it can be hard to sort through it and find the right fit. I figure I can't know all of the "right" decisions to make right now, but I doubt that any mistakes I make now will be unfixable in the future.

@@WhiteRiverLine I can't wait to watch more. I'm building a new n scale layout soon. I've been building a six stall roundhouse and machine shop. I built a two story rooming house and water tanks, sanding facility, and Ash conveyor. As soon as I get my basement painted I'll post a video of this stuff.

Good job on the start of your new layout a great start and i find new home subdivision dumpsters are good sources of scrap lumber to build a layout just be sure and ask a worker if it’s ok to look and take

Why did you attach the layout to the wall rather than just have legs to the floor?

What software are you using for your layout. I built a layout 25+ years ago and that would have helped me reduce a wonkie corner or two🤣😅

I use xtrkcad, but I've heard SCARM is better. I'm a Mac user so my options are more limited.
