Building Boeing 747-8 Full Documentary - Worlds Longest Airliner
Subscribe to Us Today!
The Boeing 747-8 is a wide-body jet airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Officially announced in 2005, the 747-8 is the fourth-generation Boeing 747 version, with lengthened fuselage, redesigned wings, and improved efficiency. The 747-8 is the largest 747 version, the largest commercial aircraft built in the United States, and the longest passenger aircraft in the world.[3]
The 747-8 is offered in two main variants: the 747-8 Intercontinental (747-8I) for passengers and the 747-8 Freighter (747-8F) for cargo. The first 747-8F performed the model's maiden flight on February 8, 2010, with the 747-8 Intercontinental following on March 20, 2011. Delivery of the first freighter aircraft occurred in October 2011; passenger model deliveries began in 2012. In July 2013, confirmed orders for the 747-8 totaled 107, including 67 of the freighter version, and 40 of the passenger version

Anybody who thinks the A380 is better, what plane is being used for Air Force 1 hmmm? BOEING FOR THE WIN!

thats because Boeing is an American manufacturer, Airbus is European. I find both to be an Engineering marvel.

Derpy Mcherpsun Nothing very earthshaking other than Boeing has not always been the archetype for Air Force One. I did not imply any comparison to Airbus if that's what you may have inferred.

I flew from LA to London on a British Airways 747 in 89. The plane was basically empty. I asked if I could see 1st Class. They let me stay in 1st Class the whole flight. At one point I asked the steward if I could see the cockpit. Several hours later he woke me up to say that the Captian has agreed to let me in the cockpit. I sat in a little fold down seat behind the copilot. One of the best memories I have. That will unfortunately never happen again after 911. Too bad. Thanks Captain I'll never forget your generosity.😊😁😊

I recall in the 90s going in the cockpit of various planes, sadly I was too young to know what they were or appreciate the significance! It seemed to be the done thing, all the kids could have a peek in the cockpit

I got too as well. The Captain accidentally whacked my head on the overhead instrumentation panel when he lifted me up to plop me in his seat! lol "I'm so sorry little buddy! Are you OK??" The poor stewardess looked like she was about to have a heart attack from the gasp she let out combined with her hands over her mouth and her eyes as big as saucers! lol It sounded really bad, like a freaking rifle shot. But kids at that age are pretty resilient, and I was just so happy I didn't feel a thing. And I remember my parents were in there, and this poor pilot and stewardess were probably peeing their pants. 😂 But my parents were never the types to make something more worse than it actually was. They were actually laughing. lol Anyway, I just wanted to share. Oh yea, I was given a little set of wings, which made me an "honorary pilot." Like the kind you would pin on your shirt. My mom still has them. From back in 1982. Sorry for such a long comment. ☺

I remember the first time I flew on a 747 was in 1977. I was 7 years old and we flew from NY to Rome and then on to Tel Aviv. Not sure if we flew on the 747 to Israel though. Anyhow, the stewardess gave me a plastic pin that looked like one a pilot would wear. I was so proud of the pin that I pretended to be a pilot as I walked around the plane. Silly but strange that I remember. Shows you how memorable flying can be for kids.

The A380 is a technical marvel and it's BIG. Boy is it big. But it completely lacks the majesty of the 747 in any form. The 747 is an icon, an aeronautic work of art. But for me, no matter how impressive it is in scale the A380 is just a huge plane that lacks the grace of the Boeing beauty.

The tax man Crazy to think the newest 777X with its recent takeoff has even more powerful engines, but derated for efficiency. Plus for the first time ever Boeing flew an new aircraft with a higher maximum capacity than the 747 (the highest capacity being 425, the 747-400 has only 412). Its not as big as a 747-9 but it definitely does the same job with half the engines.

I live in Auckland New Zealand under the flight path to our international airport.Heavy long haul airliners are a marvel to watch flying over at 1500 feet. The A380 looks magnificent, is quiet and I hope on day to fly on one. But I miss seeing the 747 as few airlines operate them down here. For those of us who have flown on them and watched them, they hold a special place in our heart. I cant wait to see a 747-8 fly past.

What can you say to those who think that the A380 is bigger, better or whatever? Nothing. Those of us who know Boeing and the 747's legacy, what does it matter what anyone else thinks? The 747-8 outclasses the "air bus" in so many ways, it is a waste of time to argue the fine points on comparing the two aircraft. The A380 is a competent, large, four engine passenger plane. Kind of like a good washing machine or dishwasher. The 747-8 is poetry in flight, motion, technology and esthetics. The A380 flies. That is about the only thing in common with the magnificent Boeing 747-8!

@StaticImage

But they're not. The A380 is a massive failure. It has been discontinued. No freighters. Airlines are already scrapping their existing planes, the second hand market for them doesn't exist, and the 747 itself is being phased out of passenger service in favor of smaller, more fuel efficient models. The 747 is beating the A380 in every sense...

Proof that the 747's hump isn't for beauty but for it's intended purpose. They wanted to build an aircraft that could carry cargo, the optimal way of loading cargo was through the nose, so they had to raise the cockpit and the 747 hump was born, so it upsets me when I see people arguing over stupid things like the A380 nose is ugly, or its too fat.....people design aircraft a certain way for a reason, it's not just there for looks!

I have a lot of faith in those guys at Boeing in Everett Washington. Has any of you have seen the 2013 AlJazeera report into the manufacturing and build quality of the 787 ?. Boeing moved their headquarters to Chicago and sub contracted most of the manufacturing of components to third party companies. As far as I know the 777 dream liner was also built in the same manner. They dubbed the 777 as the safest plane in the world ...I don't know how it acquired that distinction , considering five have been written off due to fires and other technical issues and one is still missing. Those guys at the Boeing plant in Everett have been building planes for decades and some of those folk are second generation Boeing people. If you think of the track record of the 737 , very few of us would question the build quality when we board onto one . We know we in good hands . Every plane is made with pride and care . Before it leaves the factory and takes to the skies , each plane is carefully and methodically inspected before being signed off with the Boeing factory's approval . I trust them with my life. So , how is one able to keep check on quality and workmanship if the product is not in your hands and eyes constantly , and.. at the end of the day...is it still a Boeing if it's built in pieces from all around the world , except for in the Boeing factory ? ...sort of like a Frankenstein . So ...being the 'full of shit' kind of guy that i am , when I fly , I'm always asking what plane i will be flying in and I am never given a straight answer . My question is received with suspicion and disdain . Like I'm not privy to that information. Fuckit ..I don't trust the 787 or the 777 and I will rather walk than fly in one. Boeing is a good company. They make good planes . Why fuck with that , all for saving a few bucks ? Anyways... check out the Documentary here : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rvkEpstd9os.html

Sutter fixed an inherent problem with his "twist". Today they cover it up by putting a computer on it. How's that working out Boeing?

Working just fine? If your referring to mcas I garuntee you don’t actually know what that is. Every single airline manufacturer does that airbus has used high tech computing systems for years hints the joystick instead of the yoke and the large artificial horizon systems and avionics systems

Now that would make a great private jet. I would have a gym with a track around the plane. Maybe a little water slide from the top deck. A full bar. I'd think of other things as I went.

The original, shorter and all-curved hump in the earlier 747s made for a more beautiful airplane. IMO the overly extended, partially straight hump takes away a lot of the original beauty the airplane had.

The Boeing is called the 'Jumbo Jet' and the A380 is the 'Super Jet'. I prefer the Boeing to the Airbus because you don't really need a really big plane you could just get some A340 for a cheaper price but I prefer the Boeing because it has cleaner energy because that's the most important thing about a plane

The A380 never took the Queen crown. The 747 was called that due to its success. The A380 was unsuccessful.
@ReflectedMiles
@ReflectedMiles 5 лет назад
The A380 was a colossal misjudgment and financial disaster for Airbus, which is why it has been canceled. Unfortunately, the Boeing -8 is breathing its last as well. Boeing was right not to spend the money for a new design to compete with the A380, but the great range of medium-size aircraft at lower cost and preferred patterns of economic travel in general are leaving the -8 mainly to the freighter market, and that's probably not enough to sustain the program. At least for now, all super-size transport aircraft are headed for extinction.
