Fantastic father-son time. Very nice bunk set. That young man had the most focused look on his face when he was helping you. I give it 2 years and he is going to want his own tool kit. I would also bet his sister won't be far behind. Thank you for the video and sharing your time with us out here in YT land.

Great video! I love the end product! I’m a wood worker myself and I am about to embark on making a very similar design for stackable bunk beds. My question for you is how stable are those rods that you inserted into the top and bottom of the legs? Do the beds wobble a lot when your kids are playing? And if you had to do it over again would you change any design aspects? Once again awesome video and keep more of them coming!

Built bunk beds for our boys when they were little and it lasted many years until they grew up and left home. Good luck finding that kind of quality in commercially available bunk beds. Those things are junk and so overpriced! Happy memories making something in the shop together are priceless.

LOL ROF .... Utz. A dog with the RIGHT priorities. Your son standing there with shop glasses on at 11:00 pulling that handle down - you could totally see in his face how serious he was focused on doing that work. As a 60+ year old I found that very intense to see. Hope you remember that scene when he gets older (11 or 12 years old) so you can show him where he was at that age. QUESTION: Did your son choose the paint color??? I hope that the bunk-bed lasts the right amount of time for the kids.

Thanks Peter. I loved that drill press shot! Yes he helped with the color.

Love this! My son was 2 when his sister was born. We bought bunk beds, got home late and I planned on putting the bed together in the morning. My son had other ideas....he made me build the bed that night. I have video of him ratcheting in the lag bolts...ok, so he was just spinning it the opposite direction and giggling at the noise, but it's really cute. :) That was over 2 decades ago. It's shocking how quickly they grow up.

Chris, good night. First of all, congratulations for the posts; each material is for me like a course of new practices. I am Brazilian and although we have numerous quality and wood statements, we have the taxes that encumber any good practice initiatives, I bought a set of Veritas chisels and the taxes added up to the amount I paid, 60% government taxes... Brazilians also have their drawbacks. I would like a hint if possible; I accompanied the bed that had the help of your son, what should I put on the wood before applying the final paint?

I just made my first jointers mallet and the first thing my 5 y/o ask was if he could help me make one for him. Spent an afternoon in the garage doing just that, had him help me use the same Ryoba for the cuts and everything! Love that time together. Little brother will be moving into his room soon, so I think a bunk bed is in order.

Your craftmanship is absolutely beautiful and your video is very professionally made, I applaud your calm demeanor. It is important to note that bunk beds aren't recommended for children less than 6 and there needs to be a railing the entire length of the wall side to prevent strangulation.

Awesome to see the youngin enjoying the process with you. I sometimes have to step back and realize that to teach correctly, you have to take things slower and let them get in the way.😁 I love letting my 5yo “slow my projects down” so he can learn the right way to do things. My daughter is 12 and has been learning to weld. Takes a lot longer to get things done, but the pride I see in her face is what drives my patience. We’re supposed to be the ones teaching, but I finally learned how to be patient from the both of them. Also, I’m glad to see you were wearing your hearing protection while painting… those brush strokes can do irreparable ear damage! 🤪😂😂😆
