Me and my wife plan on starting our skoolie next month. I been enjoying watchin your videos. Trial and error and your real about everything to me it’s like your leaning as you go and that’s what I like about it ! Awesome appreciate the videos!
Sitting here in Israel in Tel Aviv, you are an inspiration to my school kids. They are learning English, so I stop and start every few minutes to make sure they understood everything you said, but these young 17 year olds are also planning amongst themselves as a group to also deck out their own bus. So, thank you for your videos, thank for leaving in the mistakes, as it teaches them that only through failure can perfection be achieved. Finally, I look forward to many more videos as my second class of English students will shortly be watching all your adventures. So, don't give up, and continue to live the dream.
+Project 806 Camper Just go for it! Let us know how it turns out! We'll probably have made enough mistakes during our build that we can give you advice!
Greetings from the U.K, for some reason this popped up on my feed & being a wet Sunday here today in England, I watched them all with fascination, good luck with the build & I'll be watching along the way to see your family enjoy all the hard work.
You need to use Eternabond tape for sealing the skylights to the glass and around the penetrations. Use Dicor for screw holes and other penetrations as well as in the corners of the tape. The Eternabond is expensive but will flex with the bus and last a long, long time. It's actually hard to remove once down and adhered.
What's up guys. I'm enjoying the videos here in Texas. I'm building a old VW and making video's I think it's important to show the victories and defeats. It makes it more human. Your on the right path for channel growth. Keep it up.
Freedom International I saw a add on Facebook and it turned out to be a girl I went to school with.. But The guy that drove it from California to Texas eleven years ago saw it on RU-vid and made contact. The inner webs are a small place. Funny part is it's still in his name. So it's going to be a lot easier to get a replacement title.
I think you are on the right path spreading out the squeeze force with another piece of wood, or even some angle iron if you have it. Or even make your second box the same as this one and use it as the other piece of "bread" in the sandwich.
Awesome job!! We may be trying this on our bus!! Our exit hatch ripped off and we need a good affordable fix asap!! ALso it rains everytime we work on our bus too!!! haha
actually that was a pretty good job you did I would just put wood trimming around that and when you got to put the wood trim around it put some more silicone caulking on it when you put the the wood trim down
if you put a wood trim around on top of the plexiglass it will help seal it you can use the screws to hold the wood down and it would seal the wood trim around the plexiglass put silicone between the wood trim and the plexiglass as well and it would add to an extra barrier to keep water out
Should use thicker plexi and have it curved so water runs off, it'll pool and sag flat, use angle aluminum around the edges secured with stainless steel screws around the sides not the top, use Byutal tape as the sealant silicon not good, paint and seal the wood before sticking. Use Melamine covered wood as it's 100% waterproof. Shouldn't the wood be cut to follow roof curve? Enjoy your videos I just thought I'd join in with some suggestions.
+Dubsy Dubs I personally really like the angle aluminum idea. These are all great suggestions that I'll put into consideration moving forward. Especially the curved window to help with rain falling off!
Doing the more vlog type would be great. It will be a better time line of progress. Instead of having to miss filming doing other things because you're filming a specific project.
+Southern Rebel part two I will address that issue. I have one more skylight to build and then I'll install both of them. Planning on just using a compass to cut a piece of trim to seal the frame to the roof.
couldn't you drill holes in the plexiglass and help secure it to the frame with screws and finishing washers? That would help hold the silicon seal and the plexiglass as well.
Personally speaking I'm thinking about security and safety while traveling down the road at 60 MPH. Also, who's gonna see it on the roof? Anyway, your bus, your build, and I'm enjoying watching the transformation. Keep it safe
What are you going to do about having an exhaust then on your roof??? Ghostbusters getting Mighty hot.... I know personally cuz we had a skooly back in the 80s..... Be blessed... BBE... 🚃🚍
+Bobby Baldeagle We're going to be installing A/C before the project is over (DIY mini split) I'm still working out how to power it while on the road. Also, the way i'm building the skylights, I will probably add a hinge and latch later on down the road.
@@FreedomInternational oh crap yes that makes sense. Some 15 or more years ago we saw our rv slide sideways in our driveway about 12 inches when a hurrican came near se pa. Amazing site to behold! Scary too.
+ernesto ginebra I agree, being that it's going on top of the bus and will never be sitting in water, I think the wood after being treated will hold up just fine.
I just installed a sun tek skylight in mine, I had 2 leaking hatches with cracks in the plastics, I replaced one with another hatch in the rear with junkyard hatch, the other i used the sun tek skylight, It went on decent was a lil hard to shape I used 2 x as many screws, butyl tape, and then ran it over with white 6 inch cover tape for flat roofing, it came out awesome, I am editing videos now, I have no idea what I am doing tons of footage, cannot edit to save mt life lol here is a link to one I used. www.lowes.com/pd/Sun-Tek-Fixed-Impact-Skylight-Fits-Rough-Opening-22-5-in-x-22-5-in-Actual-29-in-x-29-in/4755607 I do have some vids on my main JBD channel and I am starting another for the bus called simple life bus feel free to sub them.
That's a nice little window! Not much more expensive than the method I'm going with. Probably about $40 worth of material per cedar skylight I'm building! Are those your dogs on your cover photo? They are beautiful!
I got the idea for that skylight from someone on Skoolie Nation on fb, and the dogs in the pic, was just something generic to put there for now, I do have a blonde pitty girl named chyna though, I also take in other dogs to help rehome now and then, mine is in a few vids, she really seems to like the bus a lot too. I made a channel for the bus today nothing on it though yet, will connect it etc. when i do more.
