My first attempt at building drawers with lock joints was a success! Watch me show you how to set up for the rabbet and dado joint technique.

How lucky we are to have such experienced woodworkers sharing their knowledge! Before RU-vid existed, there was nothing. I had to find an old timer on my street who could teach me stuff. Then I had to research tools to find the right ones. It took years not months or days. Now in a matter of hours I can do what you are showing. Just amazing. I feel so fortunate. I'm teaching myself woodworking project by project. And buying what I need too. Dadoes, rabbets, are so important to making drawers which is the cornerstone of cabinets. Who does not need drawers in their house or van, eh? Women especially, like me! I am restoring an old Japanese ironing console made out of lightweight Kiri wood, and its a challenge due to the very thin wood. I want to resize some salvaged drawers from another piece for this vintage console/ironing board then use it in my RV. The light weight is very attractive for a house on wheels. These old drawers will be pulled apart then reshaped. Knowing how to reach the middle of that wood thickness is good to know, thank you!

Thanks for stopping by! I love RU-vid as well. You can learn just about anything. I'm glad this video was helpful. Good luck with your project.

You could run all pieces with same setting if you run front and back vertically for the rabbets.

Excellent video Ronnie. I've seen a LOT of tutorials about this technique but your explanations for determining blade height and distance from the fence are the best yet. And for any wondering, yes they also work for those using a router table to accomplish the same task.👍

Great video! I don't have a table saw but I think I can try that technique with my router, thanks for the tips, and really looking forward to watching the complete console table

Yep, time tested and proven 1/2 method. Simple but strong, at least for boxes, drawers and such. In

thanks for the video. Nice work. I wish 1/2" ply was 1/2", but it isn't. Because of that I recently started using metric measurements and once you get used to it, it is so much easier to use.

Nice job, you can gluethen drill a 1/4” hole then add a walnut dowel

Good reminder about the plywood thickness. For the rabbet you could have stood the front/back on end and run it through without having to re-adjust the fence.

I tried that off camera before deciding to make a video. My table saw blade insert was not stable enough to support it that way. The wood one I made and have in the video was made for a wider dado stack so had that gap where again, poor stability. This way worked best for my situation. Great point though. Thanks for watching.

FYI, Just use your wood thickness to dial it in, all but dado thickness. You may have to add shims for that. Also you need to be using a better zero throat plate for tare out and safety protection.

1/4in cut would be on 3/4wood thick?
@RonniesWorkshop
@RonniesWorkshop Год назад
Half the thickness of material. It would be 3/8” for 3/4” material.

Is the plywood metric? E.g. 12 mm instead of half inch etc
@RonniesWorkshop
@RonniesWorkshop 2 года назад
I got it at HD and it's advertised as 1/2 inch, but then in parenthesis says, "actual .451 inch"

@@RonniesWorkshop so 11.5 mm. Here in the UK they use imperial to describe the thinkness but only supply in mm. So 1/4 is 6mm, 1/2 is 12 mm etc. Anyway keep up the good work. Really enjoying your narration style 👍
