Complete build playlist: • Cyberdrop Build Log
In this video, I do some more test rides, showcase the torsion suspension, paint on the side stripes and apply the vinyl logo, almost crash my drone again, visit with a couple engineers, and talk over the project with them.
I bought a used Prusa MK3S+ 3D printer, and I've been having a ton of fun learning how to use it and printing out custom parts for the Cyberdrop.
In the next video, I'm hoping to cover the custom solar installation. We've finalized the plans for the cell layout, and next the panels are going to be manufactured. I will have more to say about the company I'm working with in the next video, too.
To do list:
Overrun brake fabrication (welding, and testing the spring tension, etc.), solar installation, security system, fabricating a more robust ball hitch, Garmin Varia radar hardwire installation, interior electrical panel completion, interior fabric installation, storage compartments, transport Cyberdrop back to my house (65 km ride) for ongoing testing and final touches.

Good choice on the Schwalbe tyres too 👍 those reflective sidewall stripes really do a great job of reflecting car headlights at night. Loving this build journey.

@@Jerbrown I moved from Germany to British Columbia about 10 years ago and haven't managed to to see anything in the middle and east of Canada yet, but from what I see online it is definitely worth to explore! I am working on a Tiny Houseboat and hope to travel for a while with my wife in a couple of years. And now after seeing your videos I feel inspired to build a bicycle camper to fill the gap until the boat is done😆 ahh, never enough time but too many ideas...

Totally making me and the wife a trike rig. I love the design and simplicity of this. What is the reason you went with an additional front wheel drive as opposed to two rear drive motors supplementing a mid drive, and front hub motor. I plan on having a charging unit set up for; if not continuous, at least long range.
@Jerbrown
@Jerbrown Год назад
I wanted to go with the minimal motors necessary and figured I don’t need additional redundancy beyond two motors.

I have paraparesis, I can walk with a cane, but cannot make any significant physical effort, so I also have to use a manual wheelchair. I'm planning to buy a sports wheelchair, an All Terrain Wheelchair (ATW: in French it's called an FTT for Fauteuil Tout Terrain). This ATW is intended for downhill sports (ski slopes, lacrosse slopes) and for hiking trails. When I had my ATW, I would build myself a small folding fiberglass caravan, and with my dogs and my ferret, I would set off to discover the natural landscapes of France. For my wheelchair, I only bought bicycle equipment on the internet, 2 front headlights with a solar panel (2 to have 1 on each side), 2 rear lights with a small solar panel, and wireless turn signals. When I have finished my folding caravan, I will order again the same bicycle equipment that I bought for my wheelchair, to equip the ATW and the folding caravan, I will also order magnetic rotating lights that we puts them at night on a car that has broken down, if I have to drive at night, I would attach them to the caravan to be clearly visible.

Looking great! Ride footage looked very smooth. How does it respond to heavy braking?
@Jerbrown
@Jerbrown Год назад
Hi Ross, it brakes well with the hub regen braking. For emergency stops and also to act as a parking brake, I’m going to add an overrun brake to the tow bar like the Carla Cargo bike.

What Security system are you using to keep someone from taking you trailer (Camper) while you're asleep inside?
@Jerbrown

That would be interesting! I am looking at various security options, including motion activated alarms. But this part may need to remain top secret 🤐 😅

A great overall video, nice video editing and music compilation. This is the first of yours I have watched, so you may have answered before. You are towing an empty shell. Once it is fully provisioned do you have an emergency over-run brake? That would be a brake on the trailer to slow it if it started to push the bike out of control on a downhill run and the bikes brakes can't stop that much weight? Hope that helps!
@Jerbrown
@Jerbrown 5 месяцев назад
Hi thank you. Yes, the overrun brake came later and is incorporated into the tow arm. However, never needed it once due to the effectiveness of regen braking.

Yo bro ...busy working / building my 3 wheel drive trike ,with which I pull a ten foot long trailer .which contains a portable toilet ( US coast garde approved ) . By the way sodering is not suitable for your trailer , look at what did do in a cars ...thanks for the vid , later dude . You are as brilliant as I and I'm 69 , loved your videa and thanks again for your efforts . The planet needs you . Crimped connections are more flexible, heat-resistant and vibration-resistant than soldered ones which have greater potential for wire fatigue and stiffening. Crimping is often more consistent than soldering, which can vary according to method or technician.Sep 19, 2022

Impossible to get a certification for european roads for that. There is only 1 motor allowed for the whole combination. So either the motor sits in the bike or in the trailer. But no two of them. And max 250W of continuous power would be allowed.

Well that sucks. Good to know. I’ll have to pedal more in Europe and keep the second motor off. We’ll see how it goes. Thanks for the info.
