Sorry about Dolly not being bred after all. She sure loves to follow you around, perhaps you can train her to carry supplies out to where you are working? She seems eager to please and so sweet. Love seeing the kids whether they are helping or just playing. Always a joy. ❤️

It's absolutely true... you can keep goats in just about any fence as long as they are happy within the fence. One of our pastures has a 3ft physical fence and they do not jump it because they don't feel the need. Another great video!
When we had dairy goats in the 80's, we used an electric fence. They would mostly obey the fence except when the apples were ripe in the orchard next property over. Nothing would tempt them to stay in the pasture. I would go into the orchard and pick up drops, bring them back, quarter them and feed them to the herd. They would be in goat heaven. They would chew the apples and tilt their heads back to try and contain the juice, but it would still run out the corners of their mouths. Good times.
My Daddy used to use barbed wire fences on the farm where I grew up. He had to use something called a "stretcher" to get the barbed wire tight enough to sag, so I could never go along & help him. I guess it wasn't unheard of for a stretched section of wire to snap. I thought of that when I saw Grace helping you! How sweet!!

Would you care to share the names and ages of your sweet beautiful children. You may have in the past but I don't seem to be able to catch it in the videos. I absolutely love the views you experience each and every day, reminds me always of the wonderful gifts we are given by God. Our views in the mitten are beautiful too but with ALOT more water. Dolly has always looked happy no matter where she has grazed at the time and those goats...just too cute for words!!!
Art, seeing the fire flys towards the end of your video, as it was growing dark, brought back great childhood memories. We do not see them in these parts much anymore. I assume this is due to pesticide use. I hope your children enjoy chasing them as much as my siblings and I did once upon a time.

I didn’t have any luck with this. The mild goats would stay but the tough ones just took it like a champ and went under. Plus the grass and weeds grounded the bottom wire constantly. I was weed earring every other week in the spring to keep it clear.
And there is how human societies are run by the same system. keep em compliant by feeding them enough to think they are happy. on a separate note, think about production yields from aeroponics- especially during winter months, ( i would also say hydro and aquaponics, but aeroponics is more cost effective to begin with.
Great job with the hard work you are doing on your homestead. Do the animals have a salt block ? Goats and cows like to lick the salt block. When I had goats and cows they would always go lick the salt block. Yes Goats are great escape artist. IF you ever put a flip latch on a gate the goat will use their nose to lift up the latch. If you have a wood fence they often can use that like it is a ladder and get over the fence.
we learned the hard way about goats, escape artist, they ate most of our grapes and grape leaves this year, along with leaves from our fruit trees, partially our fault, they dont have leaves in their pasture, we try to remember to cut a branch or two to them but forget sometimes, they have now found out what our solar electric fence feels like, they do not like it, lol
I’m planning on getting 2 female Pygmy goats they would be in a half an acre part of my garden but a lot of it is wooded do you think they will be happy or do they need big grassy areas
I liked the video about expanding your fence, my only question is do you have predator's in your area? Black bears or coyote's the reason wouldn't it be better to have the woven wire and a strand of electric on top the furthest pasture out of sight and the three strands closer to the house were you can watch and see if predator's were bothering the goats I would say more than dolly. Oh and the videos are shorter it seems, I miss following doing the chores. Well thank you and God bless your family and crops.
We have a jumper. She jumps out just because she can, and then will eat the new growth off all our fruit trees (her favourite is my poor pineapple plants) just check to see if there's any open grain she can get into (there isn't) and then jump back in with the others . I've also known people with goats who have said some of theirs will listen for the pulses and then squeeze under/between the wires in between pulses. Crazy. Goats are too smart for their own good lol.
Spoken just like goat man lol jk you've got better luck with yours goats than a family on my road their fence is Blockwire,barbwire chainlink,electric and wood and they still come to see me and the sheep I got. As a sheep man Blockwire with one barbwire at the top and electric at the bottom has kept my sheep in I rotate pastures cause like you said a hungry animal will get out great video have a good day on the homestead
So what was the size of the pasture you fenced? We have 8 acres we just purchased and NO fencing. We just have chickens right now. But want to get goats. And are trying to find the most cost effective way.

Those goats will be in goat cloud 9 tearing up that new pasture so the grass can grow. Goats love poison ivy. Not much a goat cant or wont eat. Great affordable fence. I have to put up a fence to keep humans out this week. Wish it was for goats.
Building a goat fence is next to impossible. To test a fence for goats by stand back 5 feet with a 5 gallon bucket of water and throw it on the fence. If any water goes through it, it is not a goat fence!
Do you have enough pasture to support 2 dairy cows? As sweet as Dolly is, she seems destined to be a non-producing pet. You definitely need a milking cow for your family.
