Hey Mike, just want to thank you for all these videos, I've actually learned how to play KSP and understand the basics of orbital mechanics, delta-v budgeting, twr, ... all thanks to you and your calm, concise and clear explanations!
Thanks to Mike Aben, my glorious Kerbalian Science Program has tasted the icy poles of Duna, stomped all over Minmus and Mun, and even returned some dust from Dres. Thank you for all the help with these beginner vids-couldn’t have done it without you!
Today is going to be a good day! Thank you Mike for helping me understand ksp. I used to have KSP on my xbox and I didn’t understand anything. When I got my Pc i decided to actually try to understand the game and challenge myself. Luckily I found you so thank you for that! You helped me understand what a maneuver node was and how to reach orbit! Thank you for that :)
I just noticed. If you watch the vehicles just outside the doors while he is introducing the engines, you will see a smaller vehicle drifting a donut around a fuel truck. Kerbal’s truly are fearless and fun loving.
This is the best ksp channel I have seen I have seen some ksp channels but this channel is one of the best one amazing work bro hope you reach 10 million subs. Your videos inspired me to learn more about this stuff thank you, and those tips were pretty helpful 😊😊😊
Best KSP tutorials ever! Happy they're back!! (I usually never write comments, but hey, I heard it helps with "the algorihm", and this tutorial series definitely deserves it) ;D
YAY been waiting for this all summer lol. Thanks for this. Have you ever played the Space Shuttle Simulation Mission 2007? They were suppose to make another version but never did however it was fantastic sim
@@MikeAben you really should. They were suppose to come out with another version but never did. It's a very realistic sim and you can do everything from switching EVERY switch to just putting it on auto pilot. It is some what scripted but I think someone like you would enjoy it
I like to put 2 fuel tanks that are half the size of what I need and flip one upside down because with the right side up one, the CoM moves up, but with the upside down one, it moves down. So it balances out so my CoM barely moves, if at all. Tip: flip half of your gas tanks upside down so your CoM doesn't change as you use them up.
That is the first I've heard of this. I will have to confirm it. I always assumed that the CoM of a tank part itself doesn't move. The part simply gets lighter, which is what causes the CoM of the whole vessel to move. Thanks.
@@MikeAben set it up in the vab. Just putndown a mk1 command pod and a medium fuel tank of that size. Empty it with the overlay on and then fill it back up. Now flip it and do the same again.
@@scottwilliams846 I just did the same thing and the results were identical regardless of the orientation of the fuel tank. Are you playing with any mods?
@@scottwilliams846 Strange. I'm doing this in my current 1.12.3 career mode game with an FL-T400 fuel tank and not seeing it. The CoM in the VAB behaves the same regardless of the orientation of the tank. I don't know what the difference is.
Good build but i have a few issues. When I start to fill my orbit, my ship keeps going up and down at full boost (idk what speed to go because you didn't tell us), and my AP often goes behind me instead of going forward, making an uneven orbit, and causing my ship to tip up when i use a maneuver at the last few meters. And I find it hard to pitch the ship during ascent because it can tip too much that it can't move it back using more fuel to get my desired height.
Does it worth it? I mean, I can launch a big rocket with recoverable stages, That's what I've been using on KSP, and parachutes to be honest, so I don't have to reserve some fuel for the suicide burn... heheh =P
This is a really good video (and series) and It has helped my a lot. Thanks. Also is there away you can mount the OMS engines on the upper area (like the real shuttle) while keeping it balanced or will it move around if its up there in all circumstances.
Lol, if only I had waited a bit longer to design my MK3 shuttle. Made it a couple days ago, took me all night to iron out most of the issues. Still got one where the nose landing gear likes to bounce massively on touchdown though.
@@MikeAben Alright, thanks for the suggestion :) I have tried tweaking the spring and dampeners settings previously (turned them both up to max on the front gear) which did seem to help... some of the times. Was very spotty, for what ever reason lol As for the rear gear friction, haven't given that a try before so will do. Assuming that would be to help slow the craft down just ever so slightly more before front gear touch?
I'd assume a SSTO would be more efficient. Cause you're recovering the entire craft minus fuel. Shuttle you of course have the drop tank and side boosters which you completely ditch. However, more importantly, is it fun to fly? Myself Id say yes, lol.
@@frostbourne5770 wonder if you could recover the boosters by making them liquid and making them take on most of the ascent and then you could detach, finish the circulation with the shuttle and then warp back to the boosters in time to do entry like spaceX
@@sebdapleb1523 yep, you could definitely do that for sure. You'd want to hide some batteries and probe core somewhere. Myself would put them in the large tank somewhere
I actually tried making mk3 shutle but it always flipped out of control, and after 2 hours i decided to make one in starship configuration but it flipped too
@@MikeAben23:38 you say that you use a action group to switch control from the mk3 cockpit to the probe body but from what I’ve seen that requires a mod, if not I would love to know
@@scpguy1381 No mods necessary. It's done the same way as any other action group. With action groups open, click on the probe core in the VAB and select "control from here: from the list of options.
@@MikeAben one more question, I’ve had trouble with preventing my orbiter from rolling after launch, I’ve disabled the control surfaces, reduced throttle and was wondering if there is something I might have missed tbh at would prevent my role?
One question: I don't suppose mech jeb can do this by itself can it? I've tried before and it never worked. Some of us just want to fly and still don't understand all of this yet lol
bad tutorial.. shuttle is angled, things are clipping in. just because KSP allows it, doesn't mean its the right way to go. I mean, why not just use ALT+F12 and get it up there?! easy-peasy...
