Hello! I wanted to make a video addressing one of the more frequently asked questions on my instagram/facebook and here. If you follow my instagram you've seen a lot of little iterations of these boxes I've made in my spare time for fun. I recently made a new one for myself and one for my friend Brian Ashmore of the channel Brian Ashmore Studio. I recorded the process so that I could do a little video going over the basics of how they're built. Using the basics of bending and soldering you could design any kind of box you imagine. I am not a metal worker- but feel free to ask me any question and I'd be happy to try to help you if you want to make one yourself.
1 thing to note. After the cost of epoxy, if you're only making a couple it is very expensive to make them. The brass and box making materials are cheap but you can't just use spray paint from home depot. You have to use dangerous epoxy or 2k paints that are not good for your skin, eyes or lunges so you have to also buy protective gear.
Boxes take me around 3 weeks to a month (I have kids so it's hard to have time) and it cost roughly $400 to make 2.
If you want a custom box I highly recommend you buy one from a professional who makes them regularly. I have some by the pros and they're remarkable and last a life-time. Remember, though, they are expensive because of the dangerous expensive paints it takes to coat and just the hours on hours it takes to fine-tune them into form. If I made these to sell I would have made change on the hour if I charged the prices the professionals charge.
