Thank you for posting this, a lot of artists don't think charcoal and graphite can be used together. They need to understand as long as the graphite is applied lightly the charcoal can still be laid down over it.

Great video and superb skill but with all due respect it was more of a how to shade video than how to actually build skin texture. The main part of building the skin texture was not in the video at all.

A lot of it will really just come down the the paper used. The more tooth, the more texture.

@@elhomo6406 not in hyperrealism
@elhomo6406
@elhomo6406 3 года назад
@@eddiemcgrath8536 to an extent, even in hyperrealism a lot of the texture will come down to the paper used when working in graphite. Obviously wrinkles, hairs and noticeable pores will be rendered but large flat tones with light variation in texture is a weakness of graphite and a lot of your work will be simply to suggest shape.
@eddiemcgrath8536
@eddiemcgrath8536 3 года назад
@@elhomo6406 Not in any hyper-realistic work I've ever seen or done. Only smooth paper gives the ability for those tiny little details and subtle gradients that realism requires. While cold press or rougher textured papers can produce some nice drawings, I doubt it would be hyper realism. If you have a link to show me then I would very much like to see what you mean, or perhaps a link to your own work in hyper realism? This particular artist I've seen in his videos going to great length drawing in tiny details either before or after his values, its not the paper creating them.

I've seen many videos of hyperrealistic as well as drawn a lot. Is it the camera pixles that makes the art look realistic because the 300 bristol isn't a shiny finish like all The videos shown on RU-vid. It's more dull no matter how much it's layered.

Hi Jeffrey, What's the smallest portrait someone can do and still get that kind of detail ie. would someone be able to do a typical 8 by 10 that people get done in photography? Also, have you considered starting a Patreon Instructor site? I'm sure you'd have plenty of students sign-up. Cheers from Canada!

I’m guessing he is using the gray stick’s power bc he is using that brush in 2 different sections but getting different shades of gray.. I just went & looked at what he used in this
@everettwhite9874

Hmm, maybe he’s using gray sticks 🤔 🤷🏽‍♂️ The different values come from layering, and adding more graphite powder, I thought.
