Expansion of the catio would be so interesting for Kurt. Especially if you could somehow link the catio to one of your windows so that you can open the window and allow Kurt free-will access tp the catio when he wants. You can also perhaps put a bird feeder and perhaps even a bird bath near to the catio so that Kurt can see the birds more often.
he needs to be able to get into it through a window or door. only when supervised of coarse, weather etc. good lookin out for kurt. he totally deserves it. you are a great dad.

Yes! A tunnel or walkway from a window to the catio is essential. All you need to do is open the door to the tunnel to the patio and he can come and go. Bring him in at night and close off the tunnel.
Yes I agree cats don't like to be enclosed without a way to escape plus if it gets too hot he needs to be able to get out of there even with the vented sides if it gets hot in the summer he can cook out there if he doesn't have a way to get out
I connected my catio to a cat flap in a window. It's very popular. PS. If he's going to spend time in it without a way inside, you might need to add a litter box on the bottom level.
Better help is a literal scam. They don’t guarantee a right to privacy of the information shared in sessions, they aren't licensed therapists and can't diagnose you. In their ToS they even say that its services are not a substitute to an actual therapists. That means that what they're offering is literally just a chat session without guaranteeing your privacy. Promoting it is not good my man.
They were also recently caught selling information to Meta (Facebook) after promising US that the information wouldn't be seen by anybody else. BetterHelp info was used to target people's weaknesses in advertising. Really scummy thing to do.

The catio is awesome! I would add a mat to the floor, toys and a soft blanket on a shelf. If he’s going to be in there long, kitty litter pan and food/water dish. ❤🐈
My son-in-law put together that exact same one for my granddaughters cats, and that's what she did. It's so cozy that the kitties stay out there all day
@@denisequaid4599 nice! My three cats love being in a screened in area outside. They need fresh air and enjoy listening to, and watching, birds and geckos. However we have a lot of eagles and hawks sitting on telephone poles looking for prey, so keeping them in a safe outdoor area is imperative.
Adding food may attract other critters you may not want. Blankets and rugs will get wet when it rains. You would have added maintenance drying so as not to waterlog any surfaces or bacteria growth.

We don't let our cats out either. We tried with our big boy but he was caught playing chicken with cars . So we have a catio too! ❤❤❤ I love how you keep him so safe.
Cats don't need to be outdoors and it actually endangers them. I adopted a senior cat and he was declawed by the previous owner which is torture I would never do it but he could never protect himself outside so it is proof that cats can be totally 100% indoors and if you're going to build a patio like the one for Kurt they have to have a way to get out of there on their own and get back into a cool house on a hot day you can't lock cats in any cage without giving them the option to get out on their own but he's on the right track he just needs to make a few adjustments it would be no different than leaving a kid out in a playpen outside in the heat they can cook out there

Guys.....as much as we love Kurt, there does need to be some boundaries about decorating projects. Otherwise, the entire house & property will become Kurt's. And Abram & Haegan will live in a kennel outside lol 😂

I live in a country and a home that detest cats. Right now I am looking for accommodation for three of us. I really admire you and your relationship with your cat. I and my two cats are hoping for greener pastures.
I have a good sized balcony in my house and i never really got to appreciate it, so ive been thinking about turning it into a catio especially since it connect to my cat's room.
The balcony placement could work. Our previous home had a balcony, with two doors accessing it. We had planned to build a catio in front of one of the doors, with an exterior exit onto the remainder of the balcony. We decided to move to a different state, however, and the new house doesn't have a good place for a catio, but it has more window views.
Expand it please. It would make it look less cramped. It would also make it look more comfortable and you could actually have outside time with Kurt in the “Kurtio”
You should add on most of the shelves add blankets usually beige or light blue to give the theme of being outdoors cause blue equals sky and on the inside of some of the shelves on the inside add like a fuzzy tiny blanket with a toy mouse and to add extra spice do a hawk punching bag lol.
Artificial foliage, like ivy plants and flowers, on the outside. Maybe some curtains to protect it from rain when he’s not inside. Beds, artificial turf… and of course toys!
You should expand it so he has more space to roam and put some toys in it and make a cat door in your house and connect it to the catio so he can come in and out whenever he wants❤❤
I think it's great as is! You could clip fun little toys onto the wire, hang a hammock.. but with it being outside, i personally would just bring a few things out with you when you bring kurt out. A blanket, whatever his favorite toy is at the time, etc. Great video, i love his reaction to the catio ❤
Great idea! My friends who now are down to 5 cats had built by pros two large catios. One was built around the side and part of the back of the house’s wrap around porch for the cats in the house. They then rescued 3 other cats and had a barn built for them which is really a 2 story little house with no plumbing. They have a great catio that they can climb all around. I would suggest putting some towels down on the wood/ metal cubbies and flat spots. Also some gravel helps in case Kirk has to releve himself. Have fun. 😻😻
You can add tunnels that lead around the garden with different sleeping spots depending on the sunshine. My ginger and white cat he is a real sun worshiper 😊
As a cat owner this is great for Kurt for he can explore especially if he likes the outdoors and I think you should add blankets/beds/toys/water and food if u leave him in there a for a while/a scratcher/treats around the place for he can find them for fun/a cat pillow and rug to make it cute!
Great catio! We have 2 cats and we keep their harnesses on while they are in the catio. We take them out with harness and leash attached just in case the unthinkable happens -- they get out of our arms and run. Just a safety precaution and they don't mind keeping the harness on. Also, might talk to your vet about possibility of using flea meds if he's going to be outside much.
That would’ve been a lot cheaper than what I did. I screened in my patio for my cat. It was $11,000. But I have patio furniture out there and a rug and tv we hang out a lot together 😂
I was thinking it was gonna be connected to the house… Like another commentor said, there should be a tunnel connected to the window of the house, so he can go in and out without help. At night time you could close the window for safety. Turf flooring would be a great touch too …. Love Kurt !
The worst thing is that they won't be liable to the same rules and regulations that a local therapist would be. In some places I guess that might be good? But I think for most, that's not great.

I just got a catio for my cats, and they love it! I really like it because it is a safe alternative to being outside. We added a cat flap that connects to my window so that I can let them into it in the mornings. Catios are really awesome!
you could add some small lighting for if he goes out in the catio at night and u could put one of his beds in there aswell along with some blankets so it is comfortable great video 👍
Congratulations 🎉 it's very nice. I think that to improve you can find a way to connect Kurt's room with the patio, so he can go when he wishes, or putting a door from inside the house to the patio.

Did a cat door through the wall into the catio for my cat. It can be closed at night or any time you want Kurt to stay in the house. Easy to do and my cat loves it.
adorable! maybe you should add a carpet or something like that on the floor so it's more comfy and some toys that he likes and hang a string to the roof with maybe a toy connected to it ❤
So, I'm sure you know, Abram, that with that model of catio, the side you have against the house has little hatches that you can unhook so you can pull the catio up against a window or a pet door, that way Kurt can enter and leave on his own.
you can paint the chicken wire type barrier black and it’ll look better! it will look like it’s not even there. maybe add some cat nip plants in a lot for him to enjoy and some golf turf, because the tall ones can hurt his paws
Connecting to the house with a cat tunnel - to cat flap in backdoor or a window is a must. He must be given the autonomy to decide where he wants to be and when. Making the catio more Kurt friendly is of equal importance, otherwise, placing him in the catio and locking the door could be misconstrued as a punishment over time.
I would say if you can get a customized one from a company that he can also come out from the house would be the best option. They make them safe and sturdy and can be a bigger one as well. 😊
