honestly jesse having a gate is so fair- privacy and security is super important. especially as a youtuber in the public eye. keep yourself safe babe!

Yea when she said random ppl are knocking on her door I was like bro wtf. I don't think wanting a gate is excessive at all?? It's perfectly normal. I'm also paranoid abt security but I think there's nothing wrong with wanting to be safe, it's only natural - one should do what they think is best to keep their minds at ease

@@yenovefa I think she means delivery people. In the UK we have letterboxes in the doors themselves which fit up to small parcels, but anything bigger being delivered they will knock on your door to deliver them. Its not like in America where the mail box is practically miles away from the door to the house. We don't have big fronts to our houses here, so that would be why it could seem "a bit much" to add in a security gate - it would be maybe two or three steps away from the door. And delivery people here are notoriously shit at bothering to ring intercoms to get let inside (or be told to just place the parcel down). If it makes them feel more comfortable to add one then they should go for it, but that's probably where the thinking came from.

Jesse ive also struggled with getting out the house, and something that rly helped me was doing simpler things, like going for a countryside walk, then going for a stroll to the city center, then to a supermarket. Basically easing yourself into it 😅 However everybody's different, and im sure autism makes it harder for you, but i believe you can do it :) Edit: also, the grandad guitar thing is too precious, im sure hes proud of you wherever he is 🥹

Between anxiety(also very likely autism but between the one therapist I spoke to about it having a negative opinion of autism (I quit seeing her) and the fact that having an autism diagnosis could fuck me over in the long run when it comes to transitioning I'm not pursuing a professional diagnosis just going off of symptoms and a child psychologist telling me I should look into it after speaking with me for less than an hour) and chronic pain I don't get out of the house as often as I should or want so I bring my cat out into he backyard he loves it out their and needs to be supervised so he forces me to go out and at least get fresh air and some sun.(he is leash trained so I just have to follow him about the yard as he wanders) we also have a small corner store nearby (I live in a hamlet it's our gas station as well as general store) that I walk to once a week or so exclusively to buy myself treats that I almost never get anywhere else so that I always have something very positive to look forward to when I go there

Your house is coming along nicely! It's super cool that you're tackling it with your mom. I can very much relate to your post-covid re-masking issue. I wasn't formally diagnosed with autism until this month, but I thrived during the lockdown. I lived alone, worked from home, and never had to think of excuses to get out of social events. It's significantly harder to function outside of my comfort zone after years of living under my ideal conditions -- lots of panic attacks, stomach aches, and therapy sessions. It's great to hear you're making positive strides. More are sure to come. I look forward to watching your streams again! ❤

From what I learned in my color theory class, blue, green and purple (cool colors) have calming effects, and counter act feelings of anxiety. (Which, LOL I painted my bedroom green and I forgot this, I looked it up for you) so maybe like a lavender for the living room? Also, always go lighter and add more white to the paint (also learned that in that class) because it will look darker in the room. And if you paint the ceiling, paint that one step lighter also. I did that in my bedroom also, and it looks like the same color, it was really hard edging it, I kept going over one or the other, so I recommend painting the ceiling with color first and taping it off.
@ashrowan2143
@ashrowan2143 Год назад
Yeah definitely go lighter than you think if your aiming for a light shade on the walls my parents repainted recently and the lightest shade is meant to be just barely not white and when the first colour my mum picked went up it was key lime green on the swatch it was barely green, went back to the hardware store and picked out a new even lighter shade and it's much better, on the swatch of this one you could barely even tell it was meant to be a shade of extremely light unsaturated green but on the walls you get just enough of a hint of that green for it to be noticeable
@sofielamy
@sofielamy Год назад
When I was a teenager I chose a pastel lime green for my bedroom furniture (the walls were white) and my dad said "are you sure? you'll get stressed out about it" and now that I am in my twenties I can proudly say that instead of stressing me out, that color choice soothed the sh*t out of me (pardon my French)! I do not regret it.
@AlexaFaie
@AlexaFaie Год назад
I find warmer tones have that effect on me. Blue is cold and harsh & alienating as a colour to me. Its not at all calming. I hate it hate it hate it with a burning passion. Makes me feel cold & I hate being cold & it makes me uncomfortable and on edge feeling. People put it in bathrooms and I'm like WHY? Now it feels colder which is the exact opposite temperature I want my bathroom to be. Brrrr.... Green is way better, but then its a warmer colour when you go for the shades I like - the more yellow greens. So I do have lots of yellow green furnishings. Purple I used to like in my mid teens until my Mum painted my room purple. Previously it had been a lovely warm apricot/peach colour. Really warm & restful. Like nice warm pillows and duvets to snuggle up in (can not get to sleep with a cold pillow/bedding, its torture!). When it was a sunny day it sort of amplified the warmth from the sun & made it feel bright & relaxing. Plus we didn't have radiators back then so my room got cold & only got any heat if we had the gas fire on in the living room as the flue went up behind the wall I had my bed on. In comparison the purple made the room feel so cold! No matter how much sun it got, it still felt cold & darker. Not at all a pleasant wall colour to have. But then I also have this issue with lighting. Like don't get me wrong I love the energy efficiency of LED bulbs, which is all you can get here now (others have been banned), but most of them come in more of a blue white and its not as nice nor easy to see by as incandescent bulbs were. We had to spend ages finding warm toned white LED bulbs & they're still not perfect. Plus of course LED bulbs flicker (supposed to be slightly too fast for the human eye, but my combination of severe astigmatism plus autism makes it visible so that's "fun").
@KlutzyNinjaKitty

@@AlexaFaie - It depends on the blue that you use and which colors you use to compliment them. I have a tealy-blue + warmer green combo with white furniture for my bedroom right now and it’s great. Not too cool (I know what you’re talking about) but it’s still colorful and not too warm where I feel like I can’t relax. My bedroom is also my office so I need that blend of “calm yet ready to work.” You can also add things to make it more cozy like little paper lantern lights or little prism bead decorations. I have a whole line of them in a west-facing window and at ~5 pm my whole room is filled with rainbow sparklies. And, during the full moon and at the right place, I get moon-sparklies, too. It’s really nice.

Hi, life-long agoraphobic here! (diagnosed in childhood, I'm 24 now and still struggle) It’s different for everyone but the biggest thing that has helped me is fresh air and, believe it or not, losing one of my senses. DARK sunglasses outside and a blindfold in the house (one-level home) when I have days I’m too afraid to leave my room. Less to see, less to panic about. Obs only do these if you have the means and safety but it helps me so much. I’ve had days so bad that I was terrified to get out of bed but had no choice but to leave home for whatever reason. I’ve been blindfolded everywhere from theatres to the Drs office and even the grocery stores (I don’t drive bc of anxiety). Also, comfort items! Lots of people have things like worry stones, I have headphones and a beanie horse. On days I can’t be brave for myself, I’m brave for my beanie horse. 98% of the time my headphones aren’t even on, it just makes the world quiet. Blocking out one of my senses makes the world manageable because it’s less input and therefore helps make the world less AAAAAAAAAA. With covid when I was double masking it helped mute sense of smell (no it was not covid 😆 I used thick masks) so it was just another sense to remove and conquer. I also bought a 15lb weighted blanket (and later a weighted vest for when I left the house) right before they got popular and it's helped so much. Hype yourself up and realise it’s okay to have days where you stay home. I am constantly taking moments to breathe when I get the paralysing agora anxiety no matter where I am. Everything is an accomplishment. Mail, stores, even just looking out the window when the agora is bad. At its core, it's just another face of anxiety. It's something that can be conquered even temporarily. It is something that we ARE strong enough to overcome, even just for a day. When the world is bad And the agora hits I always remember I am a bad bitch 🖤

Honestly, this came at exactly the right moment for me. I'm at uni right now, and I hadn't left my room in weeks - not even to go to the kitchen, because it's shared. I just ordered food in and ate snacks like a rat lol. Hearing you talking about how cancelling things only makes you feel good in the moment resonated with me so powerfully; it made me realise I haven't been looking after myself. It sounds ridiculous, but that advice to at least try genuinely got me to stand up from my desk and go for a walk straight away, I made my mind up just like that. Who cares if it was a short one, or that I was in pyjamas and it was 6am, I haven't felt this inspired to better myself in months! I absolutely do come for the free therapy. Trust me, you're helping us as much as we help you. Its nice to hear somoene talk so openly about the struggles regarding socialising after COVID because of having forgotten how to mask routinely. Its exhausting existing right now in the outside world, stay home babe, we're always here.

i’m autistic but i don’t have any autistic friends so it’s really comforting to listen to you talk about it & have someone to relate to in that way. it really does make me feel less alone. so don’t apologize for talking about autism or info dumping because it really is some of my favorite parts of your videos ❤️

Okay I randomly found this video and I really appreciate the vulnerable side info dump of the unmasking at autism and the social anxiety that comes with it, I'm currently struggling with it and found this video extremely helpful. Also love the house. I actually enjoyed the rants and info dumps too just to give you some peace of mind) Good luck with continuing to decorate!

As a gal with ADHD, I absolutely LOVE when you info dump, so please don't feel too bad when you share that bit of yourself! It gets me all warm and fuzzy inside when someone gets the same kind of obsessed and excited as I do. :) Plus, I just went on a whole deep dive into how old analog tvs work and, honestly, the way that technology just Works is SO incredibly interesting! I will happily listen to you talk about OLED tvs all the dang time.

I’m glad I can understand the sped-up speech because I genuinely am interested in your feelings about like, anything. The way you phrase things and give examples is so nice! Also I did catch a Samsung fridge(?) commercial yesterday and I literally busted out laughing at it bc it was like an entire fucking tv inside the fridge door like?? Nobody keeps their fridge open like that. Even if you have the other door closed and no cold air is escaping, I know my ass would be reflexively closing the TV door.

the part about the routine, being a morning person, and sleeping habits sounded like you took it from my brain. i am glad i am not alone, we got this :-) also tough when most of my friends are night owls. then i get my socialization in when i'd actually prefer to be prepping for bed/sleeping... and then i get up late and i don't get my morning time. other stuff is highly relatable and you aren't alone, but that hit me in particular. thanks for sharing and always love to see what you're making!

Please don't apologize for sharing so much. I've had almost the exact same experience as you with social anxiety. It was always there but then the first quarantine happened and being forced to stay inside made me completely 100% comfortable with it and 100% terrified of stepping foot out my door. I started therapy in 2020. Still doing it every week. I've had to learn the same things you have. It won't get better unless you try. So, as much as I don't want to, I try to go out even if it's just to the grocery store. Going out for social engagements is a little tougher bc there's so much more involved in that. Anyway, I really appreciate you being open and honest with us. I've struggled horribly the last couple years and knowing that someone else is feeling similarly is really comforting.

truly truly truly you are one of the only youtubers i have stuck with through the years, the comfort of your videos through lockdown and then in my dreadful first year of uni, and i still watch your twitch vods when i need some calm after the big scary days !! i have never once been remotely bothered when u talk about ur mental health in videos and on stream, but i also completely understand the immediate guilt you feel afterwards. but i think you talk about it in a way that is productive and entertaining, like it just feels like talking to a friend rather than someone dumping their problems! ur right it truly feels like group therapy. anyway, case in point, i love u and ur videos and the sanctuary u provide for me, i only ever wish the best for you

i also have a blue couch in quite an old/eclectic apartment. i've found that focusing less on colors/fabrics and more on natural materials makes the space blend together a lot better. there's a lot of color in my living room but also a lot of woods, metals, and glass, a lot of it secondhand. so there's a lot going on, but it's easier to mix and match natural materials rather than colors imo. definitely is a trust the process sort of thing, and the great thing about it is you can always change it up again, especially if you lean into more of the eclectic side of design! :) also, when in doubt - throw a lamp or plant down and call it a day.

What you just said about masking before lockdown and now not being able to get back to that version of yourself, but also knowing that is not your true self hit me so hard - in the best way. It made perfect sense for me. Like I don't need to go back to that person I was before lockdown. I am allowed to be this new post-lockdown person. Thank you for that! I am so excited for you to start your new journey in a new house that you can make your own and share with your family. 🥰

It's so comforting, dont know the right word to hear someone talk about anxiety, I struggle leave the house, yesterday had to vote and I was so anxious, just glad it was a couple of old ladies, my anxiety is worse with guys, dont know why, everyone was horrible to me in high school so confused on that one. My brother had to buy me drinks on holiday and buy the stuff i wanted cus i was panicking at going to the till. Thankful he helped. When I have to do something I know I can get through it, I just avoid having do anything and I cant even speak to strangers. It's bad, life destroying, all I want do is go for a walk but i physically feel paralysed. I know I probs need therapy but again I physically cant ask for help, it sucks.

Hey Jess. The struggle is real! I'm a 41 year old man (that's very short and child-like) but I understand the social anxiety and not leaving the house. I've had OCD since I was a teenager but I've always just lived with it. While I've never been the most outgoing person or someone who was going out all the time, I still went for walks, or to the pub now and then with a friend, seen the odd friend outside of work, go to the shops etc. I work in a supermarket and when covid came along I wasn't able to go to work and didn't leave the house for about 5 months. Then I started going for half hour walks a day, then an hour walk a day. So I've been out of the house in the 3 years but only for walks, but as I'm writing this I haven't been out of the house since November. Everyone's going through something. We just don't always see it or know what it is. Thank you for sharing your struggles and your successes with us. I just wanted to say I wish you well on your journey to live your life however you want to live it and congratulations on the new house 😊

In regards to you not wanting delivery drivers knocking on your door, what I have always used is a parcel box, like a large box with a sizeable slot in the side that they can put the parcel in, letters and all. Have a little note on the door asking to use the box instead, and then the lid of the box is locked with a key. Very handy, have it in the alcove of my door so you it’s not very visible from outside. Have flowers painted up it with a sign saying ‘parcel box’ :)
