Since you used 2 x 2 wood, if you wanted to, you could install some inside foam insulation to make it warmer in the colder trips with your dog. Wouldn't add much of any weight and would help the heat stay inside on the colder days... Just an idea...
@knohultsurvival2024

Or could use bubbleplastic with alu foil, also lightweight.
@Sourpatchhikes

Fabulous idea! And the panels could be "pop-in" style so removable in summer for warmer adventures.

@@Sourpatchhikes Actually the foam insulation will help keep it cooler too. Not only will it keep heat in, but it will keep heat out.

This was great Jack, thank you. I know you prefer to be out in the woods, but subscribers like myself love videos like this. Since 1985 I've bought, renovated and flipped many houses, but I've never built anything like your bike cabin. Blessings to you, Rylie, Olivia and Ellie!

No solar ?? Think about swapping the camper wheels , and installing 2000watt bike hub on each side, 400 watt solar panel,1500watt inverter with a 200ah battery, maybe design a canopy over the bike another 400watt solar panel. And you could travel with the weather. And yes I know “ the weight “ I bet you could go 200+ miles with small refrigerator, microwave, Coleman stove. Damn that sounds fun 👍, and yes yours is cost, more practical, great job too 👍👍

The whole time I kept thinking that you could insert the stuff that we used to have in our cheap igloos that we bought at the convenience store. Just some foam paneling in each place to insulate you a little bit from the cold.

Love this idea! Two things … (1) you should make a folding bike cabin that folds via a frame so that way there’s less length behind the bike … and (2) Has anyone ever commented that you look similar to Aaron Rodgers?

Great job, only 2 things i would suggest for future reference - 1. Maybe paint the entire thing, roof, walls, under floor with 2 coats of water proofing paint and 2. The high end of the camper roof section needs a flashing or you will get rain water coming in. Hope this helps, oh one last observation why don’t you pull the camper from the other side (low side roof) would it not be more aerodynamic and less drag for you and the bike?
@TinyCabinLife

Great call on the flashing. I definitely need to do that 👍🏽👍🏽

I really want to make one of these but really needed a starting point. You have a lot of great Ideas I can work with and (because of my height) modify to fit my needs. Like using wood to mount the wheels, Foam board insulation especially under the floor.
@TinyCabinLife
@TinyCabinLife 5 месяцев назад
Those are all great ideas 👍🏽 the weight definitely starts to add up. Mine is way to heavy as is right now. I realized that I want to modify it to be better in trails as opposed to just roads. It’s great on a normal road, but anything rough and it literally gets rough

Thank you for sharing this Jack. I love your videos. They inspire me to live my best life and go for it with the wild adventures. This one really inspired me to just go for it on creating a design for a portable structure I want to make for my property (bike cabin duplicate wouldn't quite work for where I need to get it to). Reminded me it doesn't have to be that complicated or overthought. And I can just go for it now, instead of delaying it out of overthinking and stressing. Seeing your build helped too to see that what I want to do can be done similarly for keeping down weight and the walls can be simple and done with the thin plywood and stuff. Thanks for bringing some excitement and adventure to my day!

Since I first started watching your videos and saw your bike cabin or bikabin as I call it, I started thinking of possibly making my own modelled after yours somewhat…. I am currently in the process of getting my own e-bike, so something like that would come in handy since I enjoy camping but haven’t gone in years. I grew up in the country, basically the middle of no-where so all I need to do is go down some of the back roads near my parents place or old logging roads and find a place to ‘camp’ there…. I don’t own a vehicle nor have a license, so my bike is my only transportation. I have a normal bicycle for when I just want to bike for the enjoyment of it, my E-bike will be for work/appointments/etc.

@@TinyCabinLife - thanks, I will send you pics when I get the E-bike. I am hoping that I will have it sometime this summer so I have the summer weather to get use to it, maybe practise in a few empty parking lots…😁 I am also playing with the idea of putting a little skylight in the ceiling so I can lay there at night and look up at the stars before falling asleep. Plus a couple solar panels to help keep the few electronics I will have charged up, I saw the solar panel suggestion in one of the comments and thought it a good idea.

New subscriber here - so glad your A-frame cabin video came up on my feed because I have been able to see a few of your other videos now. You seem to have the gift of actually being able to build what you envision. I'm a crafter, and believe me, I rarely get with hot glue or ribbon what I envision in my head. Being claustrophobic, your bike cabin might be a challenge for me, but your A-frame cabin is adorable and would be so fun to experience. I do believe, after watching tons of tiny cabin videos, your cabins win in their tininess.

Two things come to mind. 1. Aluminum studs may be lighter. 2. A three sided outer foam insulation sleeve, that would slide on for winter/summer. It would be quieter, warmer/cooler and would have the roof glued on. I make cat houses from styrofoam coolers that are light and warm and can be heated with a low watt incandescent light bulb.

Thank you. I used to be a maintenance man for the mobile home community that I live in. I really like your design, over the years I have accumulated a lot of end cuts and materials from doing repairs on mobile homes, so I might use some of those in making a bike cabin. But as you pointed out its critical to keep the weight down. About the only thing I'd like to add is a 98 inch stainless-steel CB. antenna for my transceiver. And maybe a solar cell panel to keep my storage battery topped off. And an E bike to tow the cabin with. 😊

@@TinyCabinLife Until I came to my senses! A 98 inch stainless-steel CB antenna? What was I thinking? Why not just run a lightning rod cable up my butt?! What an idiot...

I definitely enjoyed seeing the build process of how you got to where you are with the bike camper. I would like to show you some trails in Idaho to take it on.

A tip to make it stronger without adding any weight is to run a bead of wood glue along each 2x2 where you're screwing your panels down. Much more rigid and resistant to road shocks and vibrations.

This bike cabin makes so much more sense than buying a tent. No set up when you get somewhere, cheaper and safer from animals.

Great video. What are the plywood thickness' you used? Im looking at something very similar for a motorcycle camper/cabin. Thanks for the video. Keep it up.
