I’ve watched many shelters being built on RU-vid. I have to say that if I’m building one if it’s going to be one just like this. Great built!

It’s not really bushcraft if you’re bringing building materials, it’s more like fort building…

GREAT JOB ! I like the way you did the roof , it will stop the sparks. I think i would plant something that's easy to maintain and provide a natural camo and plant some trees for more concealment. Try planting some type of food that will attract game. Now get out the hand auger and drill you a water well. Again GREAT JOB ! Hand salute from a Vet.

Not sure which bit of bushcraft uses a big bag of 6 inch nails but a decent hut. Given the background noise with a cockerel crowing and dogs barking you're not far from habitation.

Basically anybody can do it with nails . Why even make a channel. That isn’t survival bushcraft.

Always wanted to do this out near a fishing spot near a river. I’m sobering up for the first time in years.. I’m 10 days in and need ways to keep my mind occupied.. might fill my bag up with hand tools and get on the bike and start tomorrow! Good video lots of hard work. Keep it up

yeah sure. why use NAILS thats a bit NOT scratch. i always use wood pins. more bush style . lol

One thing I would mention is that it is always better to have the chimney stack a few-to-several feet above the highest point of the roof. It prevents, or at least, reduces down drafts, or down pressure, from the chimney. If one looks across any community, you will notice four-to-five feet of brickwork above the peak of the roof. That is on purpose.

Great shelter, what material did you use on the roof? What country are you in?

tools I dont mind, but I wish builders would construct without using nails. Seems to me that using handcrafted pegs would be cooler.

That roofing material should help keep the sod in place.

I would expect hand tools to be the order of the day. Bringing in a dozer or backhoe would pretty well nix the whole Bushcraft narrative. 😏

Recommend you add a vestibule to a design like this. Extend the roof ridgepole a foot or two past where you want to put your front wall and build the roof out so that your doorway is at least a little sheltered.
