Building Personality Sphere Figures

A look into the process of making a prop like "Mini Functional Replicas of the Personality Spheres from Portal 2" plus some new and custom designs.
Oh, and a little personal rant for the people who may not consider this "good enuff" help.
I design the parts in SolidWorks a 3D modeling program similar to Google sketch-up. Then the parts were printed with a 3D printer by Object called the Eden 350. This is typical of prototype engineering development for consumer products.
Designed, modeled (SolidWorks), painted and assembled by me and made with Eden 350, lancing device springs, paper clips, LEDs, color gels, super glue, etc,....

BTW, I'm not selling nor making more of these for sale. Sorry, I dont have Valve's permission to profit from their IP. Since I don't have the permission of Valve and these are unmistakably copies of their design/characters, I wouldn't feel comfortable selling any decent number of these. It's not my IP or my significantly original design so I don't have the right to produce even limited quantities of these.
However, if Valve wants me to make more I will happily oblige. (contact@valvesoftware.com)
BTW, I'm not calling anyone stupid. I'm suggesting that many people out there are over-indulged children who feel that (with no personal effort) what they want should be handed to them on a silver platter and a complete stranger (me) should feel honored/obligated of doing so. If this isn't enough info to mimic my process, the best thing you can do is to do the project in a way that plays to the skills/tools you have now, but try 1 or 2 new ones. If you do this project after project, over time you build a decent base of skills and knowledge of what tools/processes you like/hate and what works/doesn't work. As your skill set builds you can tackle more and more complicated projects. I would recommend staying away for projects that have tutorials. A lot of people accidentally spend a lot of time learning how to follow instructions instead of learning how to be creative and overcome their own challenges.

i like the comment that used to be here that said how valve stated that a real world personality core would be impossible; then it stated that you actually did it; then it said YOU HAVE DONE THE IMPOSSIBLE!

Hi! I am currently starting the undertaking of building a lifesize version of Wheatley as a puppet. Not an electronic version (thought the eyes will glow) and stumbled across your video. Your reference movements of the inside system alone just answered a few thoughts in my head on the build for this so thank you so much! And amazing work :)

@vtheawesome The tools(SolidWorkd,3D Printer) and materials (Eden 350 material/resin) are all listed in the description. The process I used is shown in this video. I'm not calling anyone stupid. I'm suggesting that many people out there are over-indulged children who feel that (with no personal effort) what they want should be handed to them on a silver platter and I should thank them for the honor of doing so. Make your version of this project. I honestly hope it turns out to your liking.

Just so everyone knows, your own personality spheres don't need to be this complex or fully functional. What the OP has posted is the work of brilliance. You, the average viewer could easily slap something that looks good from the outside together with some quick work. Ping Pong balls, superglue, and PVC tube. That's all I'm saying.

I do get rant. I mean, I understand people asking questions and wanting more info but a lot of times the people your helping lose patience in doing it themselves and end up asking you to do it for them, at least, that's what happens in my experience. @ammnra I've done some research based on the info you gave. Any tips on where to obtain an Eden 350? It's a bit hard to find on the net, but it does look like a nifty rapid prototyping machine. One of the sexier ones that I've come across, atleast. As for modeling, I can do that in my sleep. Would love to come up with stuff like this on my own; the rapid prototyper is the only thing I'm missing.

Sigh, I'd really love to do this kind of stuff. While I've tried my hand at some 3D moddeling before, never in that level of detail, and only really with sketchup, so I don't think that counts so much. That, and I dont have a 3D printer, and methinks they aren't going to be cheap to buy, especially just for the occasional random model. You've made me really want one though. ;-; Awesome work!
