As the old ceiling in my house were in a very bad shape I had to build new one. The way I do it, is how wood beam and plank ceiling would be constructed in the past. It is very simple style of ceiling, the reason, why it was abandoned on most houses from more recent times is that it needs very thick outer walls of the house.
I tried to reuse some of the beams that were part of the old ceiling, but most were too far gone, so I made couple new ones. The way I lay the planks and use wedges to fill any gaps can be used (and was used) for wooden plank floors as well.
