Food Tank and the Arrell Food Institute at the University of Guelph present Building Resilient Food Systems For All at Climate Week NYC.
A resilient food system provides and sustains nutrition and livelihoods even during disruptions. To be protected from different threats that range from climate change to geopolitics this means (1) agro-ecosystems need to be able to stay productive; (2) supply chains need to function; (3) consumers need to keep accessing food; (4) communities need to be able to support members; (5) formal institutions need to be able to provide and uphold safety nets. These elements constitute “lines of defense” that protect food systems from upheaval. This is our definition of resilience.
