In this video I am going to fabricate some custom grizzly bars for my Eastonmade 22-28 log splitter. Grizzly bars separate the bark, and scrap from the firewood. They aren't available on this unit from the factory so I decided to fabricate my own!

hi there good work on the GB's. i don't at this point have the need for them . but like making stuff/things . i have been watching lots of other channels that have been making GBs ,they all seam to have a similar design flaw witch creates a problem ,its the cross bar at the bottom .i see a Constance bottle neck there ,not quite sure how to get around it or the real need . but it is there , be interesting to see them work . you are good at fab. work and ideas , great job. best to all john

I already have a solution for that if it becomes a problem, I’m going to take a second flat plate and weld it at a 45 to that bottom support that way if wood does get caught it will hit the 45 and ramp up over. Being that it’s 2” flat bar I don’t think the edge of the wood will go deep enough in the slats to be a problem

Elliot looks like the grizzly bars came out pretty good, a nice solution on mounting the grizzly bars. Thanks Michael

I’m very happy with the final product. After seeing a couple other creations that guys made I realized I wanted them to be removable in seconds. Everyone else seems like it’s a chore to get them on and off

Smart idea Elliott! I really like how you’ve designed it to be easily taken off the conveyor if you ever needed to. Plus you saved a buck or two from having a fab shop make one for ya👍!

Fab work looks great. Grizzly bars are a tool that does a job. It’s like mud tires on a truck that never gets dirty lol. To each his own!

You have some talent that i wish i had & it impresses me ! That was a great job on the grizzly bar build . I dont think you will have a problem with wood hanging up at the crossbar with your design . I can tell you my homemade build also uses chains & thats a problem for me because the wood always finds a way to wedge itself between the chain & gbs then it starts to back up .
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott 6 месяцев назад
That is something I didn't consider, I could easily weld a flat plate deflector on there by the chains though. Guess we will wait and see. Thanks for watching

Dumb question.. Why are they called grizzly bars?
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott 6 месяцев назад
Not a dumb question. Grizzly bars were the original name for a rock screener and I think it just translated over to this with firewood as it essentially performs the same function but with a different medium
@childersbuilders716
@childersbuilders716 6 месяцев назад
@EverythingElliott so it like screens out the smaller pieces of wood that you get with the box blade? It seems like the box blade makes a dirtier/stringy split. Am I getting that right?
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott 6 месяцев назад
@@childersbuilders716 it sorts out all the bark and small scrap, yes

Good job Elliott! Definitely nice to be able to connect or disconnect them easily. Now maybe a place to store them on the conveyor if you want to travel with them would be nice.
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott 6 месяцев назад
I don’t think that would be hard to accomplish…I’ll look into that once I’m done painting them

You need a little jig to bend hooks around and get tighter curves. Easy to make.

Yeah, I was planning on just buying some hooks but decided to save a trip to the store. Just did what I could with what I have
