This is not only an impressive Lego Technic feat, but also a lesson in how a gearbox functions. I really love the two types of load-testing you have at the end and I appreciate how you collected data points and graphed them out. I think the only thing missing is a nice technic mount using rods and tires to hold the tachometer in place right next to the wheel so you don't have to hold it with your hand.
@michaelmullen3923
@michaelmullen3923 Год назад
but how? its an electric motor, wouldn't it just top out at the same max speed than without the gearbox? the only thing it shows is every gear has a different rpm which uh... that doesn't really happen in a normal car so I don't think it's a good lesson on how a gearbox functions but it is pretty cool

Nice video! One suggestion though. You could make the shaft with the shifting picese the output shaft so that if you are between gears or in no gear in acts like a neutral. That way it can keep spinning while shifting and build up speed like a real car, instead of stopping the wheels and turning them again.

The visuals really helped me understand just what the fuck a transmission is. I know it has something to do with making a car move differently, but seeing a mess of gears tells me nothing. Seeing the paths of the gearing when different speeds were shown makes so much more sense. It also made me realize that gearboxes are so complex because they have to route usually 5 sets of reductions that have to work in so many different configurations without shredding itself apart.
