In this episode of building the Best House, we install the front door and we install a sliding patio door from Andersen. I also share with you how we prepare and install our preassembled window trims made from LP Smartside Trims. Using a Kreg Jig and preassembling is the way to do it I promise. The end results are beautiful.

For me, the ideas in ru-vid.comUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

I always shim the threshold perfectly level with a synthetic shim(s) even on concrete.. a little extra silicone underneath and it’s still water/air tight and the door can actually be installed plum and square.. but I get where you are coming from too.. nice video!
@surveysays8335
@surveysays8335 Год назад
I always want the door plumb. I can adjust the bottom, with a synthetic material, or some doors have very good adjustable thresholds. You'll always regret purposely not making the door plumb if you're the one that lives there.

1/8”. Doubt that it matters I was merely providing feedback for the video. If I put a level on the door I might have even called it good… that’s 1/8” on 7’ with a laser level

When I install doors I pin shims with my pin nailer on the hinge side of the rough frame until I have a perfectly plum set of shims. Then I put a level across the bottom open space to see which side is high side. Use that high mark to set height of door. Then u can screw you hinge side door frame right to the pre skimmed rough frame and that side of door will be plum. Then level the door sill with shims (bring low side up to level with previous determined high side. Then slide shims into latch side and top to get reveals perfect all around.

Kyle 1st off what do I know stacked up to your skills? Yes I am a finish contractor carpenter? I use 3.5” squares of ply? Not so much the 6’ long ( they feel that long) shims that you buy? And I make 8” shims u can use all around for crown, base , windows & doors? Then I bought the door stud tool and coupled w/ ez hang system? I blow thru pre hungs ? Now you def do enough doors it will help you and give teaching moments for sure? Now solid core doors or commercial ones they take some time to hang? I cut 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 , 5/8, & 3/4 ply squares keep them in a bucket and to the job site? I know it probably does not help but I wanted to try & give back for all your wonderful videos I get free! Thank you brother & God Bless you and your wonderful family!

I have Anderson windows in my house and I would not buy them again. They are horrible for air leakage so I put plastic on every winter. We had service people come out during the first winter because one window had a snow drift on top of the sash after a snowstorm. They tried different seals and so on but never stopped the air leaks. When there is a wind the plastic bows in and stretches so I know it's worth the effort to install it every year.

We purchased European style window from Seemray. Not just their product, but all European style window are leak-proof. They have a double crush seal. The seal better than a refrigerator. The problem is that all double hung windows use a brush type seals. That type of seal is not really a seal, it's a brush.

I love your content and value what you do! Here's some constructive feedback. The entry door install seemed a little novice. I probably would have grouted it level. You said how much the floor was out, so we know if the threshold was in contact, the door. The door would have been out of plumb 2-1/2 as much as the threshold. It would have helped if you could have better explained the tape job on the slider. The squeegee part made sense, but why you bent the tape was unclear. The window trim section was explained flawlessly!
@stevenbrowningsr1144
@stevenbrowningsr1144 Год назад
By grouting, would you mean self-leveling cement? The 1/8" vertical offset at the top of the door (by your ratio) would be only 5/128" high (approximately 1 mm) at the low side of the door base. Seems hardly worth the effort or time.

A lot of construction guys and mechanics have gruesome looking hands and nails. I did too, until I met my wife. She rightfully wouldn't get intimate with me until my hands and nails were spotless. Close trimmed nails are easy to clean. I use white Scotchbrite (scratch-pad) and the pink liquid soap to clean my hands. I still work with my hands, but they're soft and clean when I'm off work. The crazy thing is that the women of most working men will ignore the gross hands. That's a recipe for an infection, if you know what I mean.
