haha yea i did have a look at his project before but his project is not a budget build. the parts he are using cost well over what a steam deck actually cost unless you can find a used cheap nuc. a i5 nuc is prices around $450
cool i also been working on something similar there a pspi(i love the design of the psp shell) + pi project ,been using that as a base and replaced the pi with a small ryzen board, lke you it still too bulky so working on getting the size smaller
Fun to see this progressing that looks neat with your printed piece. I'll keep an eye on your progress for sure! :) As someone who doesn't have a 3D printer, do you have experience with any printing services? Though I'm in western Canada so might not be that relevant if you're in the US somewhere further.
At this point maybe consider an x86 tablet? I have been thinking of doing something like this but I often hesitate and wonder if the juice is worth the squeeze.
I’m working on a portable console and I’ve developed a simple gamepad with analogs. Maybe it could be useful for your project! It’s based on an arduino nano
It’s just a nano to connect to your board and install a driver (a simple python code) Then just connect some buttons to it. The gamepad is not dealing with copyrighted file. It directly works with linux uinput
Your vids helps a lot with the battery power source, im designing a handheld pc with the x1 but have no idea on how to make it portable, was thinking on how to do it, and i was thinking on a power bank, but, its a to big, the i see the batte you use but im thinking now on how it would be charged if you plugged into the x1…. The x1 can charge the battery? And what are the specs of the battery?
Good stuff, thanks for all of the content. What is an overall pricetag for building something like this? Is it worth it budget wise or just a fun project?
@NovaspiritTech Ah, yeah, I should probably wait for the finished series. That is good to hear. I've been going through your pi hosted series, which is amazing, thank you. I do have one issue I'm trying to track down where my RAM usage just continually climbs from ~25% to 60% over 7 days. Not sure why, maybe just redo it all and see what happens.
