I have been suffering from extreme depression and suicidal thoughts a lot lately, I don’t know why but this trailer project is one of the only things that makes me happy in life. That may sound sad, but it’s all I have to keep me going right now. Thanks for all you do Joe

Henry - I am extremely happy you are here and that the trailer project brings you some happiness. Even when things are looking down and you feel hopeless, remember that there are people out there who love you and care about you. There is always reason to hope. Please focus on yourself and getting the help you need to feel better! This world is a wonderful place, and it's even better with you in it.

@@KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial I can’t tell you how much that means to me, I’ve been thinking about taking some vacation time to clear to my mind a bit. I’d love to volunteer to help with the trailer even though I’m all the way in Canada. Not sure if I could make that happen but a guy can dream, I hope to at least see the rig in person someday maybe at an event somewhere.

Not that you aren't already probably the talk of the area you live, but when the semi and trailer are officially done, people are going to absolutely cruise by wanting to see the full Flag Mobile Headquarters 👍 The condition of it now, compared to what they were when you first started is absolutely amazing. So many of us are so impressed and happy for you Joe. Your hard work and dedication is paying off.

Just throwing this out there. Why not box the inside of the frame where the sleeper mounts would go and mount those brackets on the inside of the frame. Then you can keep the original look and still get the performance of the brackets. Appreciate all the work and time you guys put in to keep Knight Rider alive for us and future generations!

I was going to say the same, but make sure you put in some stop/limit switches as the torque of those motors could rip those hatches to pieces.

Those already exist for RVs .. Probably would be senseless to change them out now. Plus they're kind of expensive and do fail quite regularly. Better off to just stick with a manual setup for long term reliability. @@KristonAbbott

So that vent that you were talking about in the ceiling, it is basically the same style that they use in RV'S. They do make power vents with fans that can be easily installed so you wouldn't have to worry about doing it manually. They look very similar and since its not something that will be seen it would probably be a good idea. Just a thought.

So, I think I'd think of these two different ways. For the drop ceiling. One, you might think that the Studio is more correct since they built it specifically for the interior as the Trailer part is not seen up close as much as Michael and KITT backing out or driving in to the FLAG Trailer. You could see it like that. Or Number two, you could ask the planners of the interior what one would be most appropriate to do. For my money it'd be the studio version as we are working on making it look like that one anyway.

Glad to see the ceiling coming together. It's been a while since that day searching for the egg crate defusers. I like that you went with the 1x6 over the plywood. I would suggest pocket holes over those brackets for the final install. They would pull the joints together tighter. Keep up the good work! Hi Joe I recommend that the trailer be painted in a dust free area.
@henrybartsch2085
@henrybartsch2085 2 месяца назад
You could build the Grey Border on the Drop Ceiling exactly like the trailer had over the garage section only, then build it like the studio set over the rest of the office section. Although I do believe the studio set drop ceiling would provide more even lighting, where as the trailer drop ceiling would be a bit darker along the sides which might actually work well with the Track Lights. The ceiling over the garage section isn’t really seen all that much on screen aside from The Wrong Crowd and a few other episodes. Anyways just an idea, I know you’re replicating the studio set inside the trailer so maybe that’s more appropriate than trying to get the best of both worlds. I will be excited no matter which way you decide to build it.

For the vents opening and closing in the ceiling, couldn’t you have a small gear to replace the knob on the roof vent and have it hooked up to a small electric motor connected to a switch? Have them in series or individually so you can open and close at will with less hassle? There has to be 12v I. The rear already for the ramp winch so can just tap into that and have the cab charge the 12v while in transit

For the roof vents maybe you could have and end like the long poles have going into the mech permanently and have that on something like a power window motor. That way you could have the vents open and close still. And just have them on a hidden switch somewhere so you don't have to ruin the aesthetic of the trailer. As for the differing sized borders between the set and what they have in the actual trailer. Maybe do the last two sections by the door wider like the trailer had so from the outside it matches. But do all the rest like the set. So from the inside they all look right. Best of both worlds. And would look right for recreating shots from either angle. Plus wouldn't stand out bad when looking the full length of the trailer. Perspective would make them look close enough to the others that most people wouldn't nitice

To nitpick a tad (well you asked 😅) from the screenshot vs reality, you seem to be missing the grey side framing (over the length of the trailer)? You nailed the framing over the width of the trailer, as well as the eggcrate look. But in the screenshot it looks like the original egg crates are smaller in width and have grey framing on the sides of the trailer as well? For the rest it looks amazing!!

Awesome is the correct adjective to use for everything KRH has done up until now. Once you have the ramp installed and working, the drop-ceiling lights installed, and the side-panels painted black, we expect you to find a higher-level superlative that is more awesome than awesome.

Gotta put some grease on the fifth wheel plate to slow that rust down. One you get the truck running you need to drive it. The truck does no good sitting for a period of time. As for the vents in the trailer there are some good power vent fans that will open and close and reverse the air when needed They are called fantastic vent fans and you may have one or two of those on your camper trailer Plus keep a few of those light panels setup as easy access panels in key areas for maintenance access to the moving parts of the cable and winch.

Given the drop ceiling in the trailer looks like it is assymetrical (the gap looks a lot wider on the right than the left but that might just be because we cannot see the top) I'd go for studio. Especially as you've already built it and it is the shot we see the most by far. Also... I can't wait until the hitch-up. It'll be the first time in what... 40 years the two will be OFFICIALLY together, no?

If I'm not mistaken, the interior shots of the Semi are much more often from the studio set than from the vehicle. Feels like I'd rather make a rolling version of the studio set (the "real" interior) than recreate something that was in one a couple of shots. But I'm neither building it or paying for it. You do you.
@MasterSandman
@MasterSandman 3 месяца назад
I'd encourage you to watch all the older "Semi"-videos. He *IS* recreating the studio-set interior inside the trailer! Unfortunately the set was a bit wider, to create more room around KITT, so it will be slightly more cramped then what you saw on TV. They are planning to tour the US with the Semi (with full interiour) hauling their screen-used KITT in the back!

on those sleeper mounts, be sure to check with DOT or a manufacturer, because drilling and welding on the frame is carefully controlled as far as what is legal. and although your rig is "not for hire", technically it still is a working rig, as it is being used to move a set, or gallery, or museum. and you are NOT going to like the insurance cost on that thing. you MAY be able to claim it as a motorhome, just a thought.

I did a course in art restoring paintings years ago and at times I find a dirty treasure and restore it I would love to have my hands on that door! it's white paint with a decayed clear coating I would attack the coating first with a 40% acetone 50% alcohol and 10% water and test it on the metal parts way down below with cotton swaps and if it does not attack the white its good to go if not tone down on the acetone when it works I would clean it first with soap to get the dirt off then I would go and remove the browned up layer over about 4 to 6 weeks then I'll preserve the paint and stickers under a clearcoat nonglossy archivist UV resistant resin coating to preserve it forever. now, I know! it's going to be covered with the donor's plaque but, do you want that thing over a decaying acidic mess!!! or over an inert clean surface... it's your choice.

I just got gotta know how KITT feels about seeing the trailer again. Didn't he not like being in it on the show? Maybe when it gets painted black?
