@@smashyrashy What Rich pointed out and y'all are downplaying is that the presumed battery price drop that would make EVs affordable never happened and this has seriously impacted the cost to convert an old car and deliver reasonable range. Copious Tesla module availability from folks crashing their $70-$100k luxury cars 10 years ago via Model S and then X seemed to be signaling a future where conversions would be as affordable as an engine swap using a target engine. But the cost of batteries has stopped dropping and the normalization of 250 mile range cars makes conversions look like really value since most of these conversions struggle to breach 120 miles range. That is a surprise for folks who were watching the conversion space carefully and watching for it to become a reasonable route.

Honestly, I’m not really into EV conversions, but the way Rich does it I’m down for more of this!

What would be really cool is seeing a hybrid. We all know an electric motor is a superior drive unit, so why do hybrid cars keep connecting the gas engine to the drive train? I’d like to see an electric car with a gas generator to help power the batteries only, and not connected to the drive train.

Nissan leaf motor is a bit cheaper. Cheaper again is a chinese motor and controller. Not fast but vastly cheaper than Tesla.

If that's talking about home battery storage for off-grid then a Tesla battery makes absolutely no sense and hasn't in 10 years. 48v server rack batteries are way cheaper per kWh and all ready to go without messing with voltage differentials and BMS's

Yeah I agree. There needs to be more support for other motors and BMS systems. If I do an EV swap, its going to use a chevy bolt battery and EBAY tesla motors. Those can be bought for cheap.
