Hey Tommy, great work. I like what you have accomplished and not having to spend much money on the project. I read through the comments and discovered that no one has made a comment on your yellow square. What you have been calling a "framing square" in reality is a large "speed square". I happen to have two framing squares and one small speed square and one medium size speed square. The speed square has a lot more uses and could take someone a long time to be able to understand all of what it can do. In your presentation the speed square was the better tool to use, it took up less space and looked like it was easier to use. Keep up the good work.
100% true! Although in my opinion it applies mostly to the DIY/Hobbyist/personal stuff more than for professional work. People who make money from their work tend to put that money to good use, including some of the best tools money can buy and then some. I'd think for days on end before buying a second circular saw mostly because the one I own hasn't seen much use. But on a job site we buy two in a day if that's what the job needs.
Really digging the whole microshop. One thought, the end of the jigsaw blade flying around in the air looks a bit like one-stumble-away-from-a-horror-movie-death waiting to happen. It’d be pretty simple to add a guard over it to prevent any maiming or excessive bloodshed. Just my two cents, keep up the great work man! 👍🏻
I'm upset with how nicely your handsaws cut right now. All my tools are in storage in another state, and I wanted to tackle a small project here. I spent all day today cutting white wood with a dollar tree saw. It was a nightmare. 😅
I’ve bought the plans and will start it when the weather improves (it’s dire here in the UK at the moment), although I don’t plan on attaching the drill press. The only question I have (sorry if it’s mentioned somewhere and I missed it), what is the potential total weight for the micro shop?
would it be safe to add another layer or two of wood to the jigsaw blade guide for use with a longer blade? I might want more clearance /height for electric guitar bodies. In my head I think it'd work fine, but I'm not a jigsawologist. I bought the plans, so if this is already answered in there I guess I'll just find it during my read through lol
Very good build. I like the way accessories work with different tools. Questions, On the mounting screws for the router. Would it not be better to use countersunk bolts with nuts on on the bottom? Do not know that I would trust the screws over time. I would worry about them. Are you going to install a system for dust collection?
Thanks! Nuts and bolts would be better, but I’m not too worried. It’s unlikely that all (4) screws will work themselves out simultaneously. And it’s even more unlikely that they’ll have catastrophic failure (a.k.a. have “instant” failure). It’s more likely that they’ll get loose after a long time, and it’ll be obvious as they need to be tightened. Does that make sense? I may do dust collection in the future, but I need to finish the build series first...hopefully won’t be too long!
Im so inspired by this whole project. Im in the process of turning an apartment bedroom into a usable shop space, and I will likely use some of these space saving, cost effective tool build components. Question, did you consider putting the arm for the jigsaw perpendicular, so the clearance functions more like a bandsaw? Allowing for longer cuts using the fence, etc...

Absolutely amazing build need to see the next part I really want to get the plans and build this I live in a tower block in England with very limited space so the box you are going to make to store/stand it on , I have thought of making it into a coffee table for multi functionality, what do you think 🤔
The ingenuity is really amazing. While I probably won't need this entire project there are some aspect of it that can be incorporated into other projects in the workshop. I can't say how awesome this workbench is.
For cuts over a certain width, it does get in the way and will need to be removed - luckily it's just a couple of knobs to take it down or add it back. I hope this helps!
It's more like a scroll saw than a band saw because the blade travels in both directions. I'd prefer to have a bandsaw-like action, but this is a good compromise for how little room it takes up. Anyway, thanks for stopping by to comment!
