Building the new Academy models 1/35 M4A3 76W Sherman 

I enjoy your videos. Many years ago I was a military brat. The base we were stationed at had a fabulous hobby shop loaded with model kits of every description. I would go around mowing lawns and working as a bag boy at tge commissary to earn money. Almost every dime was spent on models. My favorites were tanks and WWII aircraft. My dad would say my room looked like D-day. I had fighters and bombers hanging from the ceiling with fishing line and every horizontal surface was crammed with armor...and a few ships. Your videos bring back fond memories. Now I'm getting my youngest son hooked on modeling. Thank you!

I'm going back and rewatching your old videos for fun. Came across this and wanted to say that this was how I found your channel! M4A3 76W by Academy was my first model and I had searched it up on youtube for guidance. Thanks for the help, though I still totally failed the model : )

The thing i love about this channel is that the techniques used are so simple to do yourself, yet the finished model looks fantastic! Will have to copy the track weathering on my 1/35 Porsche turret king tiger!

Hey Andy, I just bought this one alongside a M4A3 Calliope and M36B1. Just after I bought these I read in an Armorama review that the Academy M4A3 kit tracks are far too short (will verify this when I get the box eventually). According to the reviewer, they are 76 links instead of 79. I started sweating reading the review, thinking that it would be impossible for me to fix that issue (the other modeler had to make heavy surgery on tracks, addind a link from another kit to fit the bogies...). I started thinking I'd have to go for aftermarket tracks with all the hassle it means (to me) and cry for these 3 kits (Academy's M36B1, M4A3 and Calliope share the same lower hull and running gear). THEN, I saw your video. So, all in all, maybe that's why you had difficulties assemblying them. Anyway, the review on Armorama is just a kill for this kit and I'm glad I saw your video : it makes me more confident (I'm not a beginner, but sticking styrene to vinyle always means bad news...). I never expect to get sagging tracks on a Sherman anyway, they ought to be tight (never understood how Friul could make and sell Sherman tracks, ahahahahah ! ). You make things looks so easy, it's certainly the best way for kids to share our common passion. (though I do regret not seeing some light chipping on this one). Once again, thank for your effort and brilliant videos ! (and tell your friend I'll certainly get these sand bags !)

cool build, funny how far the Spectrum is in our hobby. you can build a kit that looks so real, that it looks like it can run. new Tigers. or a kit so simple that it looks like your intro, this hobby sure has come a long way since I started. again cool Andy.

The 76mm turret mated to the standard A3 hull and suspension. Perfect companion for a M4A3E8 if you want something very similar but slightly different.

Nice job, as always. A tank has a hull, not a body. British naval officers help design the first tank. That's why we have turrets, hull, deck, and bulkheads

I LIKE the VYNIL/RUBBER BAND tracks, I'm too old to put together 10,000 track pieces any more. Although they are good for additional armor protection.

Hi Andy: Thanks for posting. Can I make a couple of suggestions? The rectangular prop slabs on the sloping engine decks were vertical -- you're splays out. Also, the .50cal would have been on a pedestal, not simply on a pintle to the turret roof. Hope this helps.

Academy would do well to mold the cupola in clear so the viewports can be left clear. Not much effort for a big improvement! Looks like a very nice kit. Love the duckbill tracks.

I also put together that kit, I was disappointed about the barrels muzzle because the tank irl did not have that muzzle

I agree a few extra delicate or small parts is a nice idea. I would also like to see ammo box decals for U.S. tanks.. not sure how other countries marked theirs. The multiple perts for the M2 is nice too. So. how does Tamiya's compare?

Looks great! I just got this kit in the mail today. How were the decals? Typical Academy, or were they better. like Cartograph?

When you apply the RainMarks, do you dilute it before you put it on? Additionally, when you applied it, used a damp brush to spread/clean it up, did you take any additional steps not shown in the video to achieve the final look? I have the vallejo rainmarks effect, but am having a little difficulty when trying to achieve that same look you have in the completed model.

You mixed the both pigments in the wash liquid for the tracks?

Don't you wish Tamiya would make their tracks just a bit longer? The tracks are always too tight, especially on the Tiger and Panther.

So, im a little confused. Is this tank supposed to be an M4A3E2 Sherman "Jumbo" heavy tank? Or is this supposed to be a standard M4A3 medium tank with a 76mm cannon and wet stowage? Sometimes foreign manufacturers dont make this distinction.

First glue the grab handle to the hull, when dry just sand off the attachment point.

Hi Andy, I am new to model building, i am working on my 3rd model right now, a Tamiya 1/35 scale Early Production Sherman Tank. I have a questions for you, do you recommend building the kit ands then painting, or painting as you go while building? I do not have an airbrush, i am using regular brushes but i do have a few rattle cans of paint. Any suggestions would be awesome, though i know you re probably really busy :)

Shame that the upper hull has a brand marking over near the turret (front left). Looks like an awkward place to sand it off as well. You can see it at 21:39... Right where you brush on the wash lol

Andy, I know you like to push for your friend Steve over at Value Gear however, that outfit is far from value when you look at what one receives for the price which is extremely over-priced for the quality of what one receives. I'm not the only one who thinks this way, as I've spoken with several friends and acquaintances in this hobby and every one of them said Value Gear is no deal at all, plain & simple. Sorry buddy but I don't recommend Value Gear at all unless one doesn't care about how they spend their hard earned money. As usual my friend, another great video presentation on model building and kit reviews. Thanks for sharing the info on this kit from Academy. Personally I recommend the Academy Kit # 13254 M-51 Sherman Tank if one wants a really nice highly detailed Sherman tank. The older version of the same kit is # 1373 but it is the exact same kit just with a different package and box art. Yes, it's the IDF version of the Sherman but one can mount any turret w/barrel configuration and they have themselves a great looking Sherman tank in 1:35 scale.
