i would use an older kit to do that since newer kits are more detailed and the details are lost through the battle damage process

Me too. I don't really do 1/35th scale kits as I am primarily a wargamer, but this is one I will do for sure. One of my favorite WWII vehicles.

Keep in mind when the windshield armor is down, the windshields (they are separate parts) would be removed and stored in a canvas case.

He dosint want it to look gloss, so he used flat, it makes no differance

@@conradsmith9332 well normally you use a gloss coat because it leaves a smooth surface for the decal to adhere to. Also to prevent silvering. Then afterwards a coat of dull coat . I'd like Andy to reply on this. Thank you for your input.

It doesn't matter if you use a Flat or Gloss coat. Both coats do the same thing, just in the end you have it a shiny finish or a dull finish. The coat fills in the voids in the paint so the decal can adhere too.

first: Tamiya is NOT exclusively for the advanced modeller. Their models (old ; before 1990 and new) are decent and easy to fit and not too many small items. second: The new tamiya models (after 2000) are sooooo much better in moulding and sharpness that they have become (also) quite expensive. In price and quality it came to compete (often) with the better end of the market Trumpeter (some) and AFV club, etc. Yet, those are even MORE expensive per kit. third: Most practical; where to buy get 1/35 scale models in your situation: order via internet , order via second hand on ebay, check where there are kit modelling hobby groups /gatherings near your town and visit those venues (for info AND cheap second hand models), and last and best: Buy a cheap off vacation season plane ticket to HONG KONG and get NEW kits for at least 30% cheaper prices than in the USA or Europe.. Hong Kong : Kwong Wa street and within radius of 3 kms. Google "model kit shops in hong kong" and find them all. Cheap hotels in Mong Kok area.

Because figures are the literal worst. That should be self-explanatory.

@@UnitSe7en i don't think so... With few tecnics you can do a lot... The only time it can turn complicated is when you get to the face...But as everything in life, practice make the master... And is another side of this art...

@@VonRammsteyn I know a lot of people who don't include figures because they (the figures) often aren't very good, or they don't like them just because they don't like putting little people around their subject. Usually reasons like that. Pilots in cockpits don't often make sense and block from view the panels and switches and the actual _good_ detail for example. Unless you're building a legitimate diorama, little people are a distraction from the model, don't make sense in a lot of instances of state of display of the model, are often not well-made and an annoyance.

How do you hold the parts together AND glue it at the same time? I only have 2 hands.

@ Ash .........??? Are you serious? With you left hand you keep the parts together, with your right hand you apply the glue........... Doh...............

I'm new and never done a model before. Some parts seem like they'd be big/difficult to hold together with just one hand, especially if you have small hands.

you can use small pieces of tape if needed, or rubber bands but do NOT get any glue under the bands. best wishes new modeler!

@Ash Baker - it's not too hard for most applications. Usually there's one part that can be set on the bench, the other piece to be glued held with one hand and your other hand can apply the glue. I've also set the cap with brush on the bench and held each piece to be glued in either hand holding them together and touched the joint to the stationary brush. The Orange cap Tamiya cement can be used like Andy is using the Extra Thin if you like it that way. The Green cap Extra thin really works better if you apply it to pieces being held together in place.
