Building the Ultimate Truck Camping Setup - start to finish DIY

Love the start to finish, too many folks would drag something like this out, through multiple 20 minute videos.

this is the coolest build i’ve seen yet. and the fact that you didn’t hire someone and made it yourself makes it even better.

Hey Mav, Some friendly advice from a more than hobbyist wood worker. When it comes to staining and or painting. I usually turn to a wet sponge or wet towels and pre dampen the surface. It allows the surface to open up and take in more strain or paint. After a few coats have dried you can always sand or steel wool to smoothen out the surface.

Honestly man this is the most impressive drawer setup I’ve ever seen in a truck. Well thought out and well deserved!

Love how it turned out and you got it done pretty quick even with the mid build change. I built out my own truck bed last October and it’s quite similar to your last setup. Right now I’m renovating a camper to take out to Montana this summer and it’s amazing how many little unknown issues you encounter along the way in projects like this. Also figuring out measurements and actually cutting the wood is always the most stressful part to me.

Love that the floor is removable to increase storage and sleeping! That twist was a nice surprise!

Great idea on replacing the plastic bedliner with the BedRug. Insulative, sound deadening, easy to slide things on and fits every indentation and grove in the bed because it's made specifically for the model and impervious to almost all spills and damage - darn near bulletproof.

Loved this video, Mav. I really admire your work habits, keeping your shop clean. Makes starting a new work day much easier when you clean up night before, You don’t get overwhelmed or discouraged with inevitable mistakes , and you even use your awareness of your occasional “scrambled brain” to be nice to yourself and think things through again. Mav, line those sliding drawers with contact adhesive. They're waterproof and easy to clean. Come in rolls and while fitting can be a pain, with your skills you'll have it done in no time!

When you said you were redoing the truck, honestly I never expected it to look so epic. It's a fantastic design upgrade! I think it it will serve you very well!

Just a friendly tip to everyone working alone with big sheets of wood or drywall. Tilt the sheet on its side lift one side of the bottom end put yourself in the middle of the shit lift with knees, pick up and lean the board on your shoulder while your other hand goes above head to catch it. Very safe and easy way to move sheets around.

You are an admirable, decent and humorous young man and I truly enjoy watching your many adventures whether it be driving down to the Grand Canyon and camping to remodeling your truck interior. You motivate and teach people of all ages so much from independent traveling to cooking to even woodworking.

I was wondering why you didn't engineer an in-fill for the double bed and then you revealed it! Very clever. Maybe some kind of foldable mattress could work as a seat & backrest during the day, and then flatten out to a double at night? Also looks like it might be more of a pain to cook outside with, but I guess that's a worthwhile trade off.

I spent way too many hours in a ford truck for work. That key chime puts chills up my spine. The water based sealer products will always be water soluble.

That's honestly one of the coolest builds I've seen. And I pretty much only watch camping/ vanlife/ van build videos. I would probably replicate this over any build I've seen to this day.

I would've recommended securing the walls of the drawers via pocket holes every 8-12 inches but I think your way works too! Looking good!

Hey Mav, had you given some thought to maybe making the front of the cubby for your stove hinged or removable? That way you’d be able to leave the stove in place while you’re cooking outside and free up some countertop (tailgate) space for food prep. You might have to line the drawer with stainless steel or something so it doesn’t become a fire hazard but think it would improve the feng-shui of your outdoor kitchen. Otherwise amazing results on the makeover, it’s super well thought out!

I must say Mav, as a professional wood worker, I'm thoroughly impressed with the skills and quality of this build. I'm not sure if you have any prior work experience in this field, but I'd definently hire you for sure! So excited to see where this new set up will take you, (and us I guess lol!). Hey Mav, One of the things that i just seen was on your cutting board if anything is cut on the bucher block that may leak a juice it could fall into the storage below and damage stuff or the metal brackets and be a hard clean up job. If it is used as a cutting board at least.

Nice build, gave me some good ideas for a build I am thinking about. One suggestion, I didn't see anything for electricity if you are at a campground with power. Adding an outlet outside the truck cord going to the back makes for handy power. Nice for winter camping to use an electric heater or even powering small appliances without having to use your battery in back. If you pay for power at a campground you might as well use it.

I do not have a truck, "just" an SUV, but one never knows what the future brings. Many features of your built can be used for an SUV as well. Congrats on how quickly your channel grew

She turned out very well, great idea being able to slide the floor into that slot and have room for two. A little bit off topic, but have you thought about making a rod with Robert's wrap style guides for lakers and other bigger deep water species through the ice? I have a 28" walleye rod from your old employer and the Robert's wrap really cuts down on guide freeze and the line rubbing the rod. Keep up the great content thanks
