Hey Mav, Some friendly advice from a more than hobbyist wood worker. When it comes to staining and or painting. I usually turn to a wet sponge or wet towels and pre dampen the surface. It allows the surface to open up and take in more strain or paint. After a few coats have dried you can always sand or steel wool to smoothen out the surface.
@JuPac420
@JuPac420 2 года назад
This is great advice, my father taught me the sponge trick years ago and I still use it to this day.
@enjay8950
@enjay8950 2 года назад
So you lightly dampen the wood with water before oiling/staining/painting?
@zachadsitt3087
@zachadsitt3087 2 года назад
Correct. You dampen it then allow it to dry before staining or painting. You'll feel the texture of the wood has changed due to "opening" up the pores of the wood. It's why when a piece of wood hasn't been properly sealed (like a kitchen table or coffee table) and someone places a drink that sweats without using a coaster, you get the raised ring where the cup sat. It is reopening the pores of the wood.
@enjay8950

Love how it turned out and you got it done pretty quick even with the mid build change. I built out my own truck bed last October and it’s quite similar to your last setup. Right now I’m renovating a camper to take out to Montana this summer and it’s amazing how many little unknown issues you encounter along the way in projects like this. I was wondering why you didn't engineer an in-fill for the double bed and then you revealed it! Very clever. Maybe some kind of foldable mattress could work as a seat & backrest during the day, and then flatten out to a double at night? Also looks like it might be more of a pain to cook outside with, but I guess that's a worthwhile trade off.

Nice build, gave me some good ideas for a build I am thinking about. One suggestion, I didn't see anything for electricity if you are at a campground with power. Adding an outlet outside the truck cord going to the back makes for handy power. Nice for winter camping to use an electric heater or even powering small appliances without having to use your battery in back. If you pay for power at a campground you might as well use it.

That way you’d be able to leave the stove in place while you’re cooking outside and free up some countertop (tailgate) space for food prep. You might have to line the drawer with stainless steel or something so it doesn’t become a fire hazard but think it would improve the feng-shui of your outdoor kitchen. Otherwise amazing results on the makeover, it’s super well thought out!

So many great ideas in this video. Excellent woodworking and it’s perfect to have so much headroom to sit up.

@@legendkillla21 You do comprehend that Steve is for a whole other dynamic of Mavs Channel? Seems like you’ve never Camped in a Truck before? Having space to stretch your legs and sit up without any inconvenience is EVERYTHING! Seems like your comment was a waste. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Are you really born in ‘83 bruh and can’t comprehend?

Dude this video you made was absolutely awesome man this was one of my favorite videos to watch. Gotta say seeing you work like this it’s different for the channel, but it’s good I’d love to see more content like this. Hey MAV how is your house coming along I know you have been working a lot on it. Could you possibly do an update video on the house and what you have changed

Looking back, ALL your videos help teach us! I now know something about FISHING, BUILDING things, and have lots of inspiration for adventures and cooking! But what I love the MOST MOST is the FUNNY VOICES! That's the very best most funniest part of MAV - ROCK ON little Bro - THANK YOU!

It's a visually huge upgrade from your previous setup. Looks like you're getting better at carpentry work too. It's awesome that you can choose to cook inside if it's too cold outside. Can't wait to see your first time camping in it.

As a woodworker myself this is such a cool build to watch come together. Had to laugh fairly loudly to myself at the part where you looked up the directions to the hinges - been there, my friend, BEEN. THERE. lol 🤣😭😭😭. Looks great! Can always improve on the "little rough" things down the line!
