The V-Bottom Skiff is going out the door! In this episode we put on our final coat of TotalBoat Wet Edge topside paint and also a final coat of Spartan Red bottom paint. This has been an amazing build and it's been so fun to share it with all of you. The boat is headed to the outboard motor shop to have the engine mounted on the transom and then we'll get her back, oil the interior and put her in the water for some sea trials in Rhode Island before delivering her to her new home in 10,000 lakes in Minnesota. We want to especially thank TotalBoat and everyone else who helped make this build possible.

I’m on my ninth can of beer this evening folks so, please forgive me for spouting off. I have so enviously followed Lou building this boat, dreaming about living aboard while, cruising the great loop. Facing the fiercest of weather along the intercoastal, the Great Lakes and then leisurely floating down the Mississippi and into the Gulf of Mexico only to do it all over again. I sensed how proud Lou was of this boat and it’s design and it’s construction process and I just drooled over it. I commend him on his accomplishment!

I got into into boat building just recently-about four years ago, I built my first rowing skiff. I applied way too much epoxy, and had many other “learning experiences with that. I then built two stitch and glue kayaks, a teardrop camper, and now a sailing dinghy. It is truly an addiction. The only problem that I have now is I am living in landlocked Idaho. Lakes are now boring to me. Being close to retirement, I see moving from here. Call! And another problem I have is one cannot find marine plywood in Idaho. I don’t like to build with construction grade plywood.

Hay Lou, love this boat! A big well done from NewZealand! It's just what I need to pull a few lobster pots and get after some ground fish! It's a wee bit big for my needs, (launching from the beach), but I have already started gathering materials for a 19 or 20 ft version. With all other dimensions being identical, will this sit in the water ok being shorter? I think you have covered this in a past video and it will be just fine. Looking forward to the Orca project !

I built a small framed V bottom skiff a few years back - on YT. Loved it! Loved building it so much I sold it and now almost finished building a 21’ folding trailerable trimaran. But for this one I went over to the dark side. It’s an epoxy/pvc/fibreglass sandwich construction. Light but strong. Modern design modern materials. She looks fantastic. And will sail beautifully I’m sure. But I gotta say I much prefer building in wood. But had I built it in wood it would not be half the boat this one is. Boats, they’re always a compromise, one way or another.

It is very nice, but I spotted the bit where the perpendicular boarding has it's weakness. It's 3-5 feet forward from transom, where it should lean against the wake there is slight indent. Straight running boards with framing you can shape that to more spoonlike for more efficient hull. Lou's hull although has it's stability on it's side, but needs a lot more motor.. Thank you, Lou and the Crew! The spark of inspiration has ignited! Can't wait to see her in waves!

Hi there from Sweden! Fine videos, very instructive too !! Its common here to use keel iron, i.e a band of metal under the keel, from the bow to the stern. My open clinkbuilt, wooden double ender, 7 x2 meter, have such a band, three mm thick stainless steel and slightly wider than the keel plank. It spares the keel, since wood is strong lenghwise, but less sideways, and its impossible to avoid touching stones, etc when landing here and there....So this steelband spares the keel. Is keelband common where you are??

I will never get bored watching Lou's videos! That skiff is a master piece. But I'm a little concerned about there is no wood protection for the inside wood. Lou, will you oil the inside wood or use another product to protect the wood inside the boat?

She's a real beauty, Lou. Great job from design to fruition. It looks so much bigger out of the shop and up on the trailer out in the sun. I fell behind on watching videos as I helped my mother get through her first round of chemotherapy, but I can hardly wait to catch up some and see not only this beauty on the water, but where you've gotten to on your other build/s. Keep on keeping on, brother. God bless.
