I would like to thank you very much for your videos. This one as well as, making up cover nose cone and VMC Spitfire white. The assembly book and plans are very good to a point. I do get confused your videos clarify everything with out them I would have not conpleted the model.
Glad it was helpful! I also have another channel dedicated to my plane builds called Rob Brennan Balsa wood planes ru-vid.com/show-UCJuHhT6bndlvVoDLdgHdF_w Although I don't have in depth videos of the Spitfire build the other ones I do have are similar in a lot of ways so may be of help as well.
I love your videos, but can you please make it slower and more detailed. I need some help for nose of the plane, each time I fail to do it. Thanks again for what you do, it's great.
Thanks for watching and the comment. If you are talking about the plastic nose cone that goes over the prop then check this out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_WHz4pf_cmk.html If it's the balsa wood part then you may wish to check out my other channel Rob Brennan Balsa Wood Planes. www.youtube.com/@robbrennanbalsawoodplanes/videos Hope this helps.
It's Christmas day, guess what I've just been given as a present! (not the night fighter version). Hopefully the only difference is the tissue covering. This video will prove to be VERY helpful just like the Mustang P51D video. Great video, a real life saver!
Hi Sidecarbod. Yes I believe they are the same other than the colour of the tissue. I have a the white version waiting for me when I get chance. You are most welcome I'm glad they helped/will help. Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
@@robbrennanrc Hi Rob, I'm not having much luck with black tissue paper, I started to cover the wing today and as the paper dried (Eze dope and water mix) the tissue developed several long rips. The same thing happened with the black tissue when I was building the P51D. With the Mustang I doubled up the paper thickness and that sorted it out but I don't want to end up doing that on the Spitfire. Have you had issues with black tissue paper? The silver paper that covered the Mustang was fine!
@@sidecarbod1441 Hi. No not had any issues with it ripping when drying. Was this after shrinking? What was the ratio of dope to water? You may also like to try this forum: www.hippocketaeronautics.com There is a guy on there called Andre Darby. He designed all the VMC magnificent flying machine range of planes and has a vast knowledge of building and flying them.
Rob..... That is a work of ART!!! I would have a go at THAT, but might need a practise model first!! 😱 I'm not sure I have the patience for Tissue and Dope.... (Although as a kid, we thought that was an ENTIRELY different product!!!) 💥😜😫 I may be tempted to go straight to Monokote.... apply reasonably taut, then hit it with a hair dryer! We'll see... What you've done here is advanced work for sure. 🏆👏👏👏👏🍻🍻 ~ Carmine 💥 ⛽
Hey Carmine thanks for your great comment. Not sure if Monokote would work very well on these kits, it may be to heavy but not having any experience in it I don't really know. And yes the same for me when I was akid lol. But I must admit the Siptfire is my all time favourite plane, closely followed by the US Corsair then the Mosquito and Mustang.
Right... I'm guessing that Monocote was used primarily on 1000mm plus Aircraft, with .60 and larger Nitro/Diesel Engines. Honestly, I SHOULD have that part of the experience as well. Have you tried ezDope, or some other acrylic variant? I have no idea how it works.... I have taken this seriously enough to join a RC Aircraft Forum!! Learning a lot, Fast. One guy did use ezDope on Tissue, but a water dilute mix, just to shrink the Tissue.... He then used spray Lacquer for the final coats. I've always had a list of the most beautiful Aircraft ever - and nothing has changed in the last 25 years, because nothing has surpassed them! 2) Lockheed Constellation 3) Supermarine Spitfire 4) Vaught F-4U Corsair 5) DeHavilland Comet (YES, a blaring Failure! But a thing of beauty) Oh.... No. 1? Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird!! Not just because it was a magnificent Piece of Engineering, not just because I KNEW the Genius Designer, Kelly Johnson, not just because she set Records almost every time she flew.... - But because *my Dad FLEW her!!!* [1969-74] And.... She is Beautiful! I met several important, famous and powerful People, because of my Dad. Cool as anything when I was younger... IMAGINE the Stress of trying to fill THOSE shoes, when I grew up!!?? 😫😱😱 It took me many years to figure out that I never had to. I just had to do the best I could. I wish I could go back, and tell the younger Me that!! It wasn't the easiest for me then. It took right after we buried Him, at Arlington National Cemetery, that I realised that. Too late as usual!! Attending the Service, was Buz Carpenter, the first to go faster than Mach 5 (X-15), 5 Senators (including John Glenn!), 6 Astronauts (including Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Gordon Cooper), plus several others, and of course, 14 of the fellow SR-71 Crew that flew with Him. What I got from talking to them was, my Dad was a consummate Professional. He did his Job, better than most, but never bragged about it. In retirement, he didn't go on all the TV Documentaries, like a few other SR71 Pilots did. They ALL had the utmost Respect for my Dad the Man, not Thomas Allocca, the SR-71 Pilot with Astronaut Wings, or the guy who almost singlehandedly ENDED the 1974 Yom Kippur War, which almost went NUCLEAR, with his definitive Reconnaissance... Just He was a well admired Man. A couple of them went on about how proud my Dad used to say he was of ME! I never really knew that, until it was nearly too late. I'm now so grateful that I took him and my Mum in, the last few years of their lives..... I learned MORE than I had in the previous 44!! I Digress... *A LOT!!* I think I'm rightfully Proud of him. ~ Carmine 💥 ⛽
Rob Brennan - Superb detailed video, great to see how you did each step in detail - almost mesmerising to watch - I had to keep viewing till the end! And it was worth it - excellent model, I'm sure lots of people will also be building this kit, it is a classic after all ! How do you rate this kit? Beginner, intermediate or pro? Thanks for sharing :-)
Many thanks for the comment Mark. The kit is first class. It even comes with their own brand of glue so other than some basic tools all you would need to buy would be some dope to cover the tissue after shrinking. To be honest I would say intermediate to pro for this one (even though I still consider myself as a beginner)
Thanks pete2778 for the comment and info but it looks like you missed a space at the end of the link. this one should work though www.vintagemodelcompany.com/sparrowhawk-sports-flier.html
Wow. Thank you so much for the super compliments and info I'm really flattered. I will certainly take a look at these sites. But it does look like youtube has somehow added 'is' to end of the forum link so this one should work. www.hippocketaeronautics.com/hpa_forum/index.php As it happens I have just started on building the VMC Tiger Moth. Done the wings and stabilisers and half way through the fuselage so maybe check back in a week or so for the build video. Thanks again
would you need need to have this level of precision? or were you just being a bit over-the-top for this? i wanted to get this one, but i don't know if i have the correct skill level.
Hi. If you want to fly it then yes you would need this level of precision I'm afraid. If it's for a static model then you can get away with with less. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.
Thanks Robert. I think I use Reynolds CutRite wax paper clear. But I am not at home at the moment to make sure. If this is not correct I will let you know by the weekend.
Does the background music have to be so ridiculously loud in places. In fact is it really needed at all? It drowns out the talking. A bit of consideration for hard of hearing elder folk such as myself please.
