Re: soldering big thermal planes. Having a proper temperature controlled high-power iron with a large tip that’s directly bonded to the heating element helps tremendously. I use a station that takes T12 tip/heater cartridges, and most of the time I’ve got a large “hoof” style tip in it. The other things that help tremendously is using extra flux; and adding a little bit of solder to the iron to act as a thermal transfer medium to bring the joint up to temperature before adding the main solder to the components.

I first got into Amiga's around the time this video came out and I started watching your channel, bought the Checkmate case and thought I would put a brand new A5000++ board into it also. After learning about the various Amiga computers I fell in love with the A3000 and A4000 big box machines. I found Hese's AA3000+ board and a couple months ago took the plunge heads first and ordered an AA3000+ board. Stephen Jones pointed me to Simon who makes sheetmetal fitting kits for the A3000 into the Checkmate case. So when my AA3000+ board arrives I should have a brand new big box Amiga in 2023! Amazing what the community has done and with keeping the Amiga alive.

Wow I came upon this video by accident, to my delight. I bought my first Amiga 500 in 1987, the 2000 in 1989 and the 3000 in 1990. I bought the GVP 030 accelerator board with 8 megs of memory for my A2000, then I bought the Video Toaster v.2 for the A2000. I made videos and animations on it until the early 2000’s when I sold them all. I truly believe the AmigaOS would have been the perfect OS for business instead of Microsucks Winblows. I use a Mac Pro in my studio for video and music production now. I spent many hours playing Defender of the Crown, plus hundreds of others. Wow what a time machine. Great video!

@@mgzukows Not necessarily. My first search came up with a XO2-1200 board for £18. However, you would probably need a custom board to fit it into the Amiga PCB which would add to the cost. It's more likely they'll eventually be recreated in FPGA... or even software emulation, Mac Rosetta style. Eventually the 68k processor was removed and eventually only supported by emulation on the more powerful PowerPC CPU. Similarly, you can use retargetable graphics to run Amiga applications on a modern graphics chip and simply emulate the original custom chips for software that expects it.
