Just found your build and over the past few days have watched from vol#1. I really like what you are producing. I have been planning to build boat with my three sons and just this week sold our Manx buggy to clean space in the shop. Thank you for the inspiration and keep up the beautiful work.
Ray-Dean Canfield thanks for watching and thanks for the comment, i have three sons as well (and a daughter) growing up we had three vw manx's, fun cars. you will love building a boat, my boys lost interest awhile back as this has been a almost four year project but they are showing more and more enthusiasm as the finish line draws near, should be a really fun summer!
What a great project and wish everyone had that attention for detail. I have followed all your videos on this project and can't wait for more to come! You have really inspired me to restore my boat, wish I could live near you to get your personal opinion! Keep up the good work #makingprogress ✔️
Fan-damn-tastic progress!!! Your boat looks really beautiful. It was disheartening to see you have all the problems with the bow, but you recovered like a champ. Can't wait until April!
Thanks Joel, the epoxy issue was heart breaking but it's far from the first oopsie on this boat, here is a quote i read on a boat blog that pretty much sums it up.... "boat building is an endless series of unfortunate events obscured by the occasional miracle" lololol
Josh, Looking good! I always anticipate the first of each month so I can see your progress. I really want to build a Barrelback, and watching you encourages me that maybe I can do it! I’m a woodworker by avocation, but my real job keeps me from putting in the time needed to build anything very quickly. I’m also a little OCD, but you are at a whole new level! I’m hopeful that I am obsessive enough to do a job approximating what you have done. Can’t wait to see next month’s installment! Larry
Larry Hicks thanks for the compliments, you absolutely CAN do it! if you have any woodworking experience at all you have more then i did when i started.
Looks awesome Josh! I'm a little behind since we had lots of snow resulting in lots of work this month, but still making progress. I'll try to get a video up soon. Really inspiring to see your boat like this.
I forget the proper name for this tru- hull fuel vent but it has a half hood . This type of vent reduces the chance of water entering the fuel vent hose going in the forward direction much more than what you have installed. Nice build and good luck !!
As always Joshua, an absolutely fan-dam-tastic job. You had me worried about getting her clear coated before setting the windshield brackets... But you had the right plan for dry fitting it first. Love the retro jewelry, especially that bow light. Wish you would have had a couple of videos from your car building days, I imagine that they were showstoppers as well. Good luck and please let us know what auto clear you are going to use over the epoxy... 👍👍👍👍✌
Thanks Randy, i too wish i had some videos of my car days, all i have left are some dusty trophys, i do however have a 1964 amc american 440 convertible in my garage that i plan on filming /uploading videos of as i redo it sometime after the Zip is completed.
joshuaburks you know that you put building a boat on my bucket list! Lol But right now I’m building up my Jeep Wrangler TJ, Dana 44 with new ring and pinion, ox locker, 35 spline axel plus a lot more! Then I have my Jayco pop up to rebuild. I also want to rebuild a old Airstream some day too!
Looking amazing mate... so stocked for you! Im concerned with the fuel breather being so low close to the water line though. I’d have installed it higher. Also and I would’ve also put the filler closer to the port side just so if there is any spill from the fuel nozzle it won’t be all over the deck. Reckon the step pads are awesome, and love all the other hardware you choose. It’s going to look the part 👍🏽
Sticky epoxi... That was February, all the forward part of the boat has huge area under the deck that is not really ventilated so moisture accumulated and the deck had high moisture content. That would be my best guess, did you ever found-out what happened? Nice work as usual. It is killing me not to jump to the last videos and see the end product!!!
Also look into coating sooner, some people apply coats before it gets hard ( they recur to it as recovering while previous coat is green) doing great all in all
Matt Hood I'm thinking mid to end of april for completion, still have to register it, apply for a title, insure it, if all goes according to plan, mid may launch.
In most of my subscriptions i judge wether or not to watch or wait until I have wifi. Your vids get whatever gigs necessary to view automatically. I'm anxious for you to get it wet. Not to rush the finish, but it feels close now . lol
I probably woy ld have used stainless hide away cleats and put the bow light a lot farther up front but it's looking good so far, can't wait to see it in the water
Cody Harless thanks for the comment! i went back and forth trying to figure out where i liked the bow light, i was worried because of the curve of the deck up front that the light might shine to low and not be legal so i slid it back some. thanks for watching.
Hi doing a great job but you can not use a through hull for a fuel vent it is a special fitting that keeps critters and other items out of the vent line check perko for a fuel vent fitting
@@joshuaburks 2 years late with my question, but you never know - why is the tank vent hole through the hull anyhow? why not venting into the bow area under the deck - is that an explosive risk?
Jeff inToronto i was hoping to be able to reach it from the cockpit. i looked at several vintage and modern pics and picked what looked good and was funtional, thanks for the comment.
I had a similar thing happen repairing a canoe over the winter. I have never seen resin separate after being mixed, but something weird happened, it still isnt dry!! so, case in point, you are NOT alone!!!
joshuaburks I understand. I just found your Chanel a few days ago and have been watching a lot of your videos! I just saw your three year update and it thoroughly explained why you didn’t fiber glass.
Jänis i planned on leaving all the info on it and keeping it as is when done, i also have the paper plans i thought about framing some of the pages and hanging them in my house. thanks for watching.
