I bet if you put some grease on that axle it would help it turn easier and it would stop squeaking.

The bamboo that sucks water should be facing against the water flow, with at least a 45-degree angle for better water collection.

i suspect they build two wheels, but a first one did not work properly (the diameter was too small to deliver water to desired high level) so they rebuild the wheel later and make it bigger.
