It's a GREAT sculpt. Amazing figure even if it doesn't transform. It's much better than the normal ones that they sell that don't transform. Although YEAH! Definitely print one that transforms. That would be SICK!
Very cool! Somewhere in a box, I have the first 3D printed transformer. By which I mean, not a print of first 3D-printable transformer file - though it is that - but the first print of the first 3D-printable etc etc. It dates from back when the most common cheap commercial was the Makerbot Cupcake, so mid-2010. Bre Pettis held a contest for the coolest 3D printable design, and this thing - a robot that transforms into a Makerbot Cupcake was the entry that won. The guy who designed the toy didn't have access to a 3D printer, hence joining the contest. Before the end of the contest, I saw the file and thought it was neat, so I asked a friend who built his own 3D printer that worked really well if he would consider printing it. He shrugged, but showed up a week later with a pile of parts, screws, and bolts. Putting it together, I figured out that I had the first one. The design was four days old and nobody had made a big deal about having one, and it was _neat_. Someone would have shared pictures of the thing. The lack of postings about having one meant I was looking at the first one to exist. So yeah, we took pictures of it. It was neat, and in spite of being completely irrelevant, kinda cool to own a unique historical artifact. It's still here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2865 I dunno why the pictures we took of our print are gone, but the guy whose printer it was still has the entry there under the make tab.
Do they have 3D printed pretender shells and upgrade kiits for existing TF figures, like Legacy Skulgrin? Adding a proper robot head, and other parts, then adding the excess pretender to a 3D printed shell for the robot to hide in would be ace.
Quick tip for all you 3D printing renegades….use acrylic craft paint and dab the brush all over the model. Avoids brush strokes, layers gone completely with no sanding.
Hello, we think your 3D printed OP is excellent, for a first try at 3D printing it, don't put your self down about it, think of all the blemishes etc as happy accidental battle damage. Pls continue to show your 3D print artwork.
