Israel carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Gaza into Wednesday morning, while over the same period of time Hamas fired multiple rocket barrages at Tel Aviv and the Southern city of Beer Sheva.
One multi-story residential building, a tower reported to be housing Hamas and other media outlets in Gaza City, was totally destroyed after Israel warned occupants in advance to evacuate, and another structure was heavily damaged in airstrikes.
An Israeli airstrike also hit a car carrying three civilians, including a woman in Gaza City, Palestinian witnesses and health officials said.
At least 53 people have been killed in Hamas-ruled Gaza and six people in Israel since the violence escalated, according to officials.

And that's what's so amazing: Up to this point no air force in the world, not even the highly trained, highly experienced, excellently equipped USAF, has ever conducted airstrikes in such tightly packed urban quarters with such astounding precision. I don't want to sound cynical: Obviously, war is horrific, innocents die, people are injured and made homeless. No sane person wants that. But aerial bombs hitting obviously pre-determined points at the base of these buildings, causing them to collapse in a controlled fashion with little damage to their surroundings - it's just breath-taking how perfectly this was planned and executed. I feel very sorry for any victims. But from a military perspective the professionalism of the IDF leaves me speechless.

@@abrahamthebewildered1448 I do realize that there are numerous violent encounters at anytime in the world. But it has been rather quiet on the Middle East for sometime. I haven't seen anything on the news about violence in the Middle East since Covid started. Then everyone got vaccinated (Israel has some.of the highest vaccination rates) and now I hear Hamas tried to attack Israel, but their missile defense network seemed to have done its job, so they decided to test Gaza's missile defense network. Apparently they still have some bugs to work out?

Exactly. Over 1000 rockets fired at Israel yesterday, nobody says anything (it costs 40,000 USD to intercept a single rocket), much of the tiny country is sitting in bomb shelters, what are they supposed to do? The building here was a hideout for many of these Hamas operatives ordering attacks and rocket missiles, from civilian areas in Palestinian towns, camouflaged, it's a very difficult war for Israel to fight and to defend itself from this. Hamas is intentionally trying to hurt civilians, launching rockets in civilian clusters, how do you respond to that if you're in charge of defense of this tiny country?

@Clautchi ioc : you have to get a grip on reality. when your ancestral homeland, documented for over 5,000 years is a place of peace. and people attack you, you have every right to silence the aggressor. put another way, when you have peace, a home and children, and you chose to start a war, people do not believe you when you cry about your family getting killed. as for 'international law' that is called a treaty, there is no magic 'law' and when you attack a sovereign country and they fight back, you started by violating international law, they responded with military force and created a demilitarized zone. you end aggression, you get your land back. you keep fighting, that buffer zone is not yours to use to attack from every again. it is how almost every boarder between every country on the planet has been formed.
