Does the rocking result in damage to the facade and interior of the building?

my guess is that it's cheaper to replace facade elements than whole buildings. Not to mention more survivable for the occupants. The beehive is on big shock absorbers that isolate it from things, but it's kind of expensive to build a giant concrete "boat" that floats above the surrounding landscape.

I was wondering that. Here is one possible solution: imagine all your interior walls attach only to the floor and adjacent internal walls. Where internal walls meet external walls you have a seismic gap. Now the internal walls have low mass and high rigidity, which saves them from damage even if the floor shakes strongly, and the gaps protect the walls from being impacted by any other part of the building. The above is pure speculation on my part. I am not a civil engineer specializing in earthquake resistance.

You dont want the building to rock at all. That creates thrust energy x weight distrubution against each sigment of the building it will rock itself to self destruction. Te papa.
