BULGARIA is a country in Southeast Europe, on the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. It is best known for its beautiful Black Sea coast, the high mountains, the ancient history full of mysteries, its rose oil, its wine, its delicious food, and its hospitable people.
Rhodope Mountains is one of the largest mountain ranges in the Balkans. It is an endless maze of ridges and valleys, located mostly in Bulgaria, and a part of Greece. It is covered by wild deep forests and hides a unique local culture, history, and mysteries.
One of the most beautiful valleys in the Rhodopes is the valley of Chepelarska River, leading against its current from the Upper Thracian Plain to the highest ridges of the mountain ranges around the border with Greece.
In this video we reach Smolyan, one of the largest cities in the Rhodope Mountains, and the cultural center of the region. We visit the History Museum that presents a rich collection of artifacts from the mountain range.
Smolyan is surrounded by high mountains, valleys, and a lot of natural points of interest. We visit one of them- the Canyon of Waterfalls. It is a wild valley west of Smolyan, with a chain of waterfalls hidden in a deep mountain forest.
