I have tried a number of Rename Utilities and have settled on Winsome File Renamer 8.0 for my PC. I have added keywords to my photos. I use Winsome to rename my photo files with the date taken followed by the Keywords. Winsome is a very powerful and easy to use app.
Oh my goodness - you are amazing - thank-you so much for this! Super-simple explanation that even a 2 year (or - um - a late 60-ish person:) old could follow
This appears to be exactly what I need... however....what if the current filenames are not the same number of characters? Some of the files in my folder are 4 characters, other files are 10 or more characters. Can I remove all characters, (obviously there would no longer be an 'extension' in the file name) not sure if that will cause a problem? Or can I simply remove all characters, and then within the Add section use the Suffix field to add .jpg? Thank you!!
The length of the original file name is not a problem. In the name area, just set to remove the current file name. Then, just add in what you want. Also, it ignores the extension until you want it to be replaced. 😊
Hehe maybe I am a moron but it just does not work. If you get the program to see the files or photos you want to scramble or rename, you can do it in the program but how then do you get it to apply back to the original file they came from? I have spent a few hours on this program now, watched 10 videos and no one tells you how to relay the new changes back to the original folder they came from? Its like it is some kind of secret or something. Just crazy. I just want to completely randomize an entire folder of photos. I tried to sign up to the forum of the company, it does not send you an email confirmation, I read through every chat in the forum on it and no one tells you this final piece of info? Do you export it back to the file you took it from or something?
Hey, that is odd! Just a few thoughts, when you highlight the files in the screen at the top right to the New Name turn green then you know you are changing the files to something new. Then it should just be a case of hitting Rename and it will do its magic. As an aside where are the files being stored, in case that is causing an issue, but it should work on computers, hard drives, NAS storage (I have used it on all of them). Also make sure the files aren't locked so you can't change the name.
Hello, thank you for sharing.👍 My problem concerns folder names and only folder names. How do I mass rename folder names? I actually have more than 650 folders with names containing spaces, I tried with DOS commands, nothing worked, I notably tried with the command: ren "old folder name" "new name of the folder". To do this, I put as many command lines as folders to rename in a TXT file and then I renamed my TXT file to .BAT. To make a long story short, the result obtained is not good (big mess). Does bulk Rename allow mass renaming of folder names? I am thinking in particular of removing spaces in folder names and replacing them with hyphens. Perhaps then the "ren" command will work correctly. I should point out that I have an EXCEL file in which the first column contains the names of all the current folders (old folders) and in the neighboring column the new ones. names that I would like. Perhaps it is possible to use this table in bulk Rename. Thank you in advance. Best regards.
You can't use the spreadsheet to rename with Bulk Rename Utility but you can just do folders, by only ticking the Folders option in the Filters area (12). 😁
They are accessible wherever they are saved. If you save them to your computer, they will be there. If you save them to a cloud service synced to your computer, they will be accessible across devices. 😊
I'm a begginer programmer ... One of many ideas i had for a project is to create a small peace of software to bulk rename files I guess i m so late Maybe i will creat a mobile app instead
Yes if you could get the same functionality for a mobile that would be great, especially if you can do all the folders at once. The ones I have found are not so great at that! 😀
@@amandalittlecott thanks for the suggestion, doing different folders at once is great functionality ... if i ever managed to get it working as a mobile app, i might send it to you for a review in your channel thanks, your content is great 👍
