Matt Tuck is a very good all round vocalist, but he is also one of the best rhythm guitarists in rock/metal. When you think about the tempo of this song and how fast he plays while also switching between clean and harsh vocals, has to be said he is rather underrated. Suggestion for the next Bullet For My Valentine song, find a live version of The Last Fight (as recent as possible), and hear Matt play the first verse and chorus solo with the crowd singing along before the whole band rip through the full song. You’ll also get to hear the bassist on shared lead vocals.
If you want to know how they have adapted, Check these songs: °Hand of blood °Scream aim and fire(Check) °Waking the demon °Hearts bursts into fire °Pretty on the outside °Over it °Don't need you °Shatter
This song sends me straight back to highschool. I don't know much about singing and I never claim to be great. But I will say once I learnt how to fry scream, by just adding a little rasp(?) on my vocals and not pushing hard to actually scream I stopped losing my voice. Actually most fry scream I record is softer than my actual singing, just sounds like yelling :) Fun times
I love when vocal coaches go down the metal rabbit hole. I’m going to throw in a recommendation of Sleep Token. They’re not really metal, they have metal elements, but they’re a band that isn’t defined by genre. They’re completely incognito too (legitimately nobody knows who they are). Any song by them is worth checking out but my top 5 are “The Love You Want”, “Hypnosis”, “Fall For Me”, “Higher”, and “Distraction”. Love the content. Have a sub.
Fry is actually the most sustainable way to do harsh vocals if you also want to maintain good cleans. Fry scream is bell canto technique with a different sound. Find your fry and then push air into the sound just like if you were singing. You can shape the pitch with the shape of your mouth, small round mouth will give you lower perceived pitch by blocking more over tones, the more open your mouth the higher the perceived pitch
Thanks Ken for reacting to this song, you seem to enjoy the screaming. Just one point to consider, Matt Tuck (the lead singer) was suffering from tonsillitis when this track was recorded and shortly after had to have surgery to remove his tonsils. This led to him having to retrain his voice.
i think you'll have a field day with their new self-titled album , at least i enjoyed all of that. especially their "Death By A Thousand Cuts" song ... also they sound way different from Scream Aim Fire now
A lot of heavy metal bands are actually being trained by opera singers for the sake of protecting their voices by the way. specifically screamo / bands that fry scream. i sadly cant remember the source where i learnt the info. but it truly was fascinating to see two very very different worlds colliding
I went to one of their gigs and tried to growl/scream like Matt and lost my voice the next day, clearly I was doing something wrong, cheers for the reaction :D
You should try checking out one of Blind Guardian's songs off the album "A Night at the Opera". I personally would suggest "And Then There Was Silence" however it's a pretty long one, any of the others would be good too. The range on his vocals are insane, and from what I remember the amount of vocals layered on top of one another for the previously mentioned song is ridiculous.
Just subscribed today! Have been really enjoying your reaction videos! Would love to see your reaction to Dead Can Dance (a wonderful duo) . Take care!
Do you know about Georgia? It isn't state of America, It is Country Georgia in Europe, Which has a special culture and traditions😍 you can see collaboration of "Georgian voices and Bobby McFerrin."💜💜
I think you would enjoy Powerwolf. Classically trained singer and a very unique style with a church organ in the background. They also have one of the best live performance acts I've ever seen at any concert.
You should listen to Killswitch Engage, they’ve had two lead singers, both sing and scream. Listen to “Beyond the Flames” with singer Jesse Leach, and then “My Curse” with singer Howard Jones.
Had to subscribe as BFMV is one of my favorite metal bands and I hadn't seen anyone else react to them. If you want to hear something very unusual, give a listen to "Wolf Totem" by The Hu... there's an original version and also one featuring Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach. The Hu are a Mongolian metal band complete with the throat singing! It's amazing!! Also, on the other end of the spectrum, if you haven't yet, go listen to "Hallelujah" as covered by Pentatonix...a 5 person, completely a Capella group. They do things vocally that shouldn't even be possible by humans! Enjoying your channel so far!
Hi Ken. I'm a new subscriber and I jumped in when you were doing the reaction for Iron Maiden. I'd like your reaction to a band named Steelheart and their song I'll never let you go. The lead singer has some serious pipes!
please please please react to "The Sound of Silence (Cover)" Colm R. McGuinness, or his latest cover of "My mother told me" IN OLD NORSE!!! his vocal ability is amazing
you need to try the song "Venom" from Bullet for my Valentine, is totally diferent to this song! u r so great! i always have a great time see your reactions!, a hug from Chile!!
New subscriber (some month now) my request, as I know you do understand German... Udo Jürgens Medley ‚Ich war noch niemals in New York‘. He died two weeks after, 80 years of age. His career lastet 60 years. Genre is jass, pop, Schlager, he mostly sang in German. He is a legendary singer, songwriter and pianist. Of cause you can choose any other clip as well...
Hit the nail on the head calling it uncomplicated, despite the skill involved in the instrumentation (I really love how the band literally shout OVER THE TOP! as they're playing the most excessive metalcore around). I've always enjoyed the breakdown in this song most as IMO metal and its cousins are some of the best examples of pure rhythm as music. No melody at all just alternating rhythms of a single chord. Love your work Ken, would love to see more Unleash The Archers on your channel ☺️
Their first album was one of the best metal Albums ive ever heard. Unfortunately such a great album, that the next one was already super mainstream and generic. After that i completely Lost track of their releases. I might add, that the Song you Reviewed was not off their first album 🤣
Fun fact there is no safe way to fry scream tho u can get lucky he however totaly destroyed his vocal chords and had to go on a very long hiatus and was told by doctors to no longer scream as much as he used to in his earlier music they kinda havnt been as good since either. I was a big fan befor that tho
