The switch is still killing it as always. Another title I won't be able to play for a while but at least with a title like its gameplay will be timeless and limitless.
Stredenn has been in my Steam wishlist for a while, but I passed up on it for more classic or better looking shmups like RefRain. I think I might need to pick this one up! SEE ALSO: NeuroVoider, basically an arena style version of this, with similar visuals and rogue-like mechanics.
The Steam version does not have all of the features that the Switch version has, but Pixelnest is going to patch them into the Steam version in the somewhat near future! No word on the PS4 or XB1 versions though. I assume they will though. We have Nerovoider on both PS4 and Nintendo Switch, and have streamed it twice. It has a sublime soundtrack and some really amazing weapon names!
@@StudioMudprints For real? Thanks for the info, that's the single massive drawback that I saw for this game that prevented a buy. Guess I'm going for the physicial then price be damned!
These are my favorite games. Shmups and atop down games. Just overall arcade games. The best games I own are compilations like snk and taito 1-2! I want these technological wizards to figure out a way for me to burn my PSN digital content onto a disc.
Who knows, maybe Hamster or Zerodiv will collab with different publishers to make arcade perfect compilations for Neo-Geo or others? It'd be neat and we'd definitely double-dip!
I've read the game is brutally difficult, to the point of not being fun. "unfair" issues such as all enemies looking too similar and thus it being too difficult to learn how a given enemy might attack
Right, "at some point," Which could be any time from now until the end of time. In actuality there are literally any number of other games I'd rather be playing; I'm just trying to be polite.
Sorry, but I really feel like this is just another roguelike that doesn't respect the player's time. I found shooting the same spacetoasters over and over with WEAK weapons incredibly dull. Perhaps after dozens of hours better weapons open up, but I won't be around for it. Check out Sky Anniversary instead.
Probably. For me, there's different types of roguelikes. Some have a good hook and build upon your time with the game and then there are games that gate elements purely by time played. Sky Anniversary built upon itself every time I played. I could feel the ship improvements helping my gameplay. Steredenn seems to gate new weapons poorly IMO, and even when new weapons unlock, you probably will still get stuck with the same crap shotgun for your next 3 plays. It feels artificial. I just can't help but feel when simplistic roguelikes come out and lack meaningful progression. To me, it feels like their lack of level design is just an excuse for poor design. I actually enjoy the boss battles and would love to see the rest of the game, unfortunately, there's just too much better stuff out there vying for my time.
The weapons aren;t gated though. You have just as much chance of getting an insanely powerful weapon on your first go as you would on your hundredth. It all reall boils down to skill, not just overwhelming offensive power, especially when playing for score. We made it to game end for the first time in this version, but could have easily done the same in other just by luck of the draw. It's almost like the thrill of a lootbox, but you don't need to pay for it every time. You can also "seed" the game too, which recreates the same conditions of a certain run.
I guess I just prefer a roguelike where there's some semblance of a progression system. I have played the game for several hours and got the same 5 weapons for what felt like 90% of the time. It just never really felt like the weapons had power behind them. I also found the drone system slightly cumbersome and really more of a hassle than it was worth. IDK, I think I'm just disappointed in the loop. Look at a game like Flinthook, while not the exactly the same as Steredenn, it builds upon repeat play. I can't help but feel like Steredenn desperately needs more depth to the gameplay loop or at least a bit less randomness. Like I said, I really like the boss battles the rare times I have a usable weapon and the daily challenge gives me a glimpse of the cool stuff in the game, so its not all bad. Phone ramble done.
