I would RUN home from school to play this! I thought this was the greatest game EVER along with the original Madden! Damn, thanks for posting this! 🙂👍🏼
Each player had a sweet spot and you'd never miss from it, much like their sweet spots where you'd initiate a dunk. I figured this out early and decimated my little brother... constantly. He was like 8 and would cuss like a sailor on leave. It fueled my soul. I finally taught him the secret and it became fair... a year later. I taught that little kid to hate Michael Jordan and Larry Bird.
When I was a young boy, we had a projector TV on in the living room watching the actual game, and I had this playing on my genesis on a little commodore 64 TV/Monitor. I felt like I was in spirit of the atmosphere. Also educated me on rosters and such, miss those simple times.
I use to have this game and bulls vs blazers as well I used to play both games everyday after school and at night I went to sleep around 11:15 pm wake up at 8:00am to go to school the 90's was fun
had so much fun on this, doing every marquee dunk in the game and trying to discover the hidden ones some had like secondary all-star players like pippen for instance. Sometimes they had one the #1 team all-star wouldn't --- like you see Horace Grant doing that baseline two hand jam, which was pretty generic but i don't think he could do the 360 dunk jordan did. In fact Jordan's dunk set was pretty diverse in this! I can't remember if he had the under the basket reverse layup or the free throw line tomahawk dunk as his marquee.
Leonard James Thanks. Yeah, it's been years since I played this so I couldn't remember. Now that I think of it, there was one of the versions of NBA -Live- Showdown in the early 90s (genesis) where Barkely did a 2 handed jam from the free throw line; it was kind of ridiculous, but cool too (also one other guy might have had it as well in a different year as they would sometimes rotate the "marquee" moves out among players). Like I remember them giving Karl Malone the "mailman" dunk, but then like I swear in one of the years they gave it to someone else and you could do it practically from the free throw line as well. I'd like to see a list of the old marquee moves from these early NBA -Live- Showdown games.
That was the fun of all of these games. The series changed after NBA Showdown....pretty much this game would've been NBA Live 92, Bulls vs Blazers is NBA Live 93, and NBA Showdown is NBA Live 94....the last game with Jordan for years, and the first game with Shaq.
Man... 2nd grade, June-ish. I did my first ever playoff run in this game that coincided with the actual NBA playoffs (it was two years later, Bulls vs Suns). I remember it so vividly. BJ ARMSTRONG! THREE!
Before Seattle traded Threatt to the Lakers prior to ‘91-‘92 where Threatt was initially supposed to be a backup to Magic Johnson til Magic fell sick due to HIV forcing Threatt to start at PG.
Only thing I didn't like was that they slowed the game so much in comparison to Lakers vs. Celtics. Maybe they couldn't keep the stat tracking and playoff stuff with the limitations. Only knock on this game that my friend and me played ALL THE TIME
This series of NBA playoffs and world USA basketball all played similarly and was average to me, but man was the music just spectacular. That EA sports intro was epic too, butused to always jump scare the heck out of me though ha!
It was frustratingly slow and about impossible to beat someone 1-on-1 unless you get a perfect screen set, but the different dunks the guys could do made it worth having.
+whoopdiddydo Nobody notices that there was supposed to even be a Super Nintendo (SNES) version of Bulls vs. Lakers And The NBA Playoffs. Given that Genesis came out in the late 1980s, it made sense that Lakers v. Celtics was a Genesis exclusive between the two rival Genesis/SNES factions, and we're also talking about a Nintendo console that came out in late 1991. Either sometime around late 1991 or around early 1992 was the Bulls vs. Lakers game supposed to be released for the Super Nintendo. But for some odd reason, it was never released for the SNES, instead it was the Genesis that actually got to put out Bulls vs. Lakers in a game where you could play as the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers. And wasn't Bulls v. Lakers (1991) supposed to be based on the upcoming '91-'92 season where you would've had to play as former Seattle SuperSonics' point guard and solid complementary star Sedale Threatt as Lakers' point guard given Magic Johnson's retirement due to H.I.V. at a time when it was a fresh issue to discuss? So the Super Nintendo never got to release their own version of Bulls vs. Lakers, instead they went straight to making Bulls vs. Blazers And The NBA Playoffs (released in late '92-early '93) where both the Genesis and SNES got each version of Bulls v. Blazers. The only slight difference is that unlike Bulls v. Lakers where you got to choose between Houston, Atlanta, Milwaukee and Philadelphia; in Bulls v. Blazers, you were now choosing to play as the Los Angeles Clippers (in place of Houston), Cleveland Cavaliers (in place of Atlanta), Miami Heat (in place of Philadelphia) and the New Jersey Nets (in place of Milwaukee). Wasn't Bulls v. Blazers (1992) supposed to be based on the upcoming '92-'93 season where you would've had to play as former San Antonio Spurs' point guard Rod Strickland as Portland's backup point guard behind Terry Porter? +Joe Kidd If you're hearing this post, come check out Bulls v. Tip ins were awesome. Used to play multi-player with the Blazers and teammate (err... Terry Porter) would shoot 3-bombs while I planted myself (err... Clifford Robinson) under the hoop --- tap, tap, tap, good! Unfortunately, these offensive rebounds were never counted in the stat line.
