If you are just beginning be more concerned on how much it will hurt you while learning. Just be aware of the potential injuries if you underestimate the whip while learning. A whip is incredibly dangerous but should not be considered weapon.That isn't the point. You are more likely to hurt yourself than fight off an attacker. If some one is hit it will be devastating but whips are about sound, control and style. Its about a dangerous performing art. When directing cattle not one bull is hit. You move cattle by directing the lead bull by the noise. It is extremely dangerous but it is not a fighting weapon like in the movies. Does this help answering your question? hey adam, I use and make nylon whips similar in size and style as the black whip in this video. Is that leather or nylon? Also when you say 6 ft, is that the true overall or is that 6ft on the thong to fall tip. it seems my 6ft whip is shorter than yours lol.
Adam, I have a question. I am playing in musical called Jesus Christ Superstar as a armyman. In one of the last scenes I need to whip Jesus, but there is a problem doing whip cracks. I have limited space for it, my head is about 11 inches from ceiling, and I have a wall behind me about 20 inches. I use 6 feet whip. Could you recommend me some way to crack the whip with this limited space?
David Armes We tried it once and it didn't do much. Some would like to think a single whip crack in the right place could be lethal, but I am pretty sure it couldn't be.
