I really appreciate the way you look at taking deer for the betterment of your local herd genetics. That's something I think about a lot, too! Must be the way we were raised with that in mind for our own animals.
I used to be so against hunting, i would get so mad when my dad went out to go hunt. But you, and other googling/looking into ive done, opened my eyes a lot. As long as your hunting isnt for sport, I'm all for it. I know you hunt for food. But you have also explained it helps genetic diversity. Especially this boy who chases all the other bucks away. Awesome hunt, gorgeous buck!
I'm a retired Agriculture teacher and we talked about this a lot in our classes. There are so so many untruths, myths, misinformation and flat out lies on social media, activist groups, internet, etc about farming and hunting. Personally I blame extreme animal rights groups for this....PETA being the main one. I'm really glad that you were open minded enough to seek information and ultimately change your views about hunting. Your comment made my day!
It ALSO keep the livestock healthier by removing unhealthy animals from the land as well. (Since this is their farm too) We once had this squirrel.......... He *ahem* hung to his knees. Which was not a good sign. So if that was a buck, he could have even been given a special permit off season in some places.
I've learned so much From Katie, Dan, & Derrick. I placed my ASD girlie in AG this year & she LOVES it! & if SHE can understand culling, then all is right in the world.@@leannemcrae8132
I’m a wuss when it comes to hunting but if I did it would be for the same reason you do. I’ve known about conservation hunting to keep the animal species in balance but I never even thought about hunting to improve a herd’s genetics. Thank you for talking about it!
Katie! What an awesome harvest! The video was so beautifully edited too, I really enjoyed watching and was so excited for this video to come out! So happy for you girl!!!
Beautiful buck Katie!! Congratulations for getting the bully buck! He is handsome and sure will fill some bellies!! Also congratulations on the two new babies! You are a great person who has great intentions!! Well done again!!!!
I love venison. I put a venison roast in a crockpot with onions spices and a can of cream of mushroom soup and cook it 8 hours on high. When it’s done you have venison and gravy. It’s awesome and the meat comes out nice and tender. Just a recipe from when I was a kid when I would go hunting with my Daddy and Brother. ♥️🦌👍Keep up the hunting videos. They bring back great memories of my childhood.
This was so awesome. I felt like I was on the hunt with you guys with the camera work and everything and oh my god this is your year Katie you’re doing duxking amazing!! That’s gonna be some good tasting meat I’m so jealous haha💜
Amazing hunt Katie. Congratulations on getting your bully buck. That's how I hunt also. But in Pennsylvania hunting doesn't come in until close to Thanksgiving.
We have one that we call crazy horn. One side is beautiful and the other side grows straight up. We harvested an off spring last season. His horns looked exactly like crazy horn.
Me personally I’ve been trying to get a big buck for the last couple of years! Let me tell u I’ve got buck fever like bad 😂it’s ridiculous! I love watching your videos! I think you should do a video on how you dress them and what you put in your coolers!!!!!!!
Great Buck!! Congratulations!!! That was fun to watch. I have hunted in North Idaho and we have some pretty large bucks around here and if we want to we can go south about 50 miles and hunt Mule Dear!!!
Beautiful Buck! Yes he needed to be taken out if he was scarying off other bucks and his genetics ain't that good. I had a 2yr old that was coming in on me with a rack like that but alot smaller and not legal to shoot. I nicknamed him Misfit.
Congrats on an awesome buck! I got goosebumps after he went down. As a fellow lady hunter I know how exciting it is! There’s nothing like it. I just took my first bear a couple weeks ago and it was an incredible feeling 🥰
I want to get into hunting so bad! When I was little I would go with my grandpa and uncles . Before having my two boys (6and 2) I wasn’t to interested in it but now that I’m a mom I want to learn so I can teach them how to hunt . Katie how do get into the “sport” of hunting? Any tips or suggestions?
Nice job. Now i thought I heard white tail mentioned, was that his species? Other question. Why with some deers you call them bucks and others are stags?
Great video and congrats!! I do have a question though. Why didn’t you skin him that night? Is it cold enough in Oklahoma that he was okay outside over night without the meat getting ruined?
How many pounds of meat do you get from a buck that size? Does bow hunting help you to be able to go back to the same stand night after night since youre not scaring them off with the noise of guns or does that not make a difference?
Guess the meat section at the market ran out of meat?? WTH. If you're starving, no problem, but I doubt that. So unnecessary to say the least. Stick with the horses. This is cruel. Did he hurt you, charge you,or was he just eating and enjoying his life, geeze!
Do you not understand how hypocritical it is to say “go to the store and buy meat that someone else pumped full of hormones, didn’t allow to live a natural life, and killed for you” instead of harvesting your own meat? Yikes lmao.
It would be cruel to not have a hunting season only bc these deer are overpopulated they need to be controlled and this is what she does and her family..
They breed cows, they also eat them. They just castrated a bull cow because he’s not a good bull cow, that means when he’s big enough he’s gunna be food for a family. They hunt to keep the population down before it becomes to over run with deer. Bucks or does. I don’t like it, but I understand it fully. If you don’t hunt or kill any animal ever, we’d be over run with them. Same with humans, if no human ever died we’d have way to many of em.
You can buy a million dollar horse, yet you can’t fill your freezer with food hence, the killing. This is purely sport hunting. Why not kill your horses for their meat? Not much different. And before you say “Don’t watch then”, I didn’t.
So you'd rather people buy there meat from the store all wrapped in plastic? Where the animal died stressed hearing it's herd mates bellowing out of fear while they wait their turn to die? Hmmmm. I'd take a fresh harvest over that any day of the year if I could. Because I know that that animal lived every minute of its life until it closed its eyes for the last time. That buck probably never even knew what hit it. One minute it's terrorizing other bucks and then he wasn't. If I'm Australian who doesn't hunt can understand the concept then I don't know why others can't.
At least she knows where her meat comes from, and that it is as organic as you can get. If I had the opportunity to hunt and have fresh meat in my freezer I would. Plus who wouldn't want free food. Its much the same as breeding cattle, sheep or pigs for meat except you don't spend hundreds/thousands of pounds/dollars feeding, rearing, paying vet bills, bedding, and all the other expenses that come with keeping the animals. And like Katie says its conservation and helps the species to improve and thrive.
