My husband and I were just talking this morning about the different types of figure we see on our maple. We would typically call that pattern either quilted maple or tiger maple. What we call birdseye maple has lots of “dots” on it, with figure going from the dots (sort of like a bird’s eye 😁). We also have what we call fiddleback maple, but I’m not sure how it’s different from the quilted…I’ll have to look that up 😊
@@kristilbilyeu7682 yes there are different names for different effects in timber species. In Australia we have Birdseye Huon pine, but only if it's cut the right way. Cabinet maker teacher at school showed us Australian silky oak and said cut quarter sawn we can see the Silver "medullary Ray". May be different terms in different languages such as American? Haha
ahh fiddle back.I have heard that one before.Thank you Rob, someone else mentioned 'curly' or 'tiger' as in curly Bulloak but fiddleback definetely sounds more familiar to me.Good onya mate and thanks again
Beautiful figure in that boloke . That would make a great fretboard on a guitar, or bridge. The wood needs to be hard and straight, looks like it ticks those boxes. Thanks for that.
Awesome Vid Bro. Can't wait to get my hands on some of that Buloke. When we get a piece of wood here with that effect on it we call it Curly sometimes Tiger. Ex. Curly Cherry or Tiger Maple..etc.
Hah,there you go.. I won't forget that now mate.Curly Black Box and Tiger Buloke :) Thank you Michael, your support is massive to me bro.. oh and I might just send a whole stump of Buloke soon so you guys can fight over it lol
im looking to make a guitar out of some local hardwoods, might be heavy as all hell but the sound quality is gonna be stunning. thanks for this great little bit of info mate
Oh man I want one of those little buloke boxes. Got nothing to put in there but my sense, but I still want one. I'm going down a massive rabbit hole of Australian Iron Wood, trying to learn which is which. Why is using buloke as firewood such a sin? I imagine it'd burn super, super hot...
Gday Dylan, whereabouts are you mate ? I'm pretty busy but I might be able to send you a box sometime. Yes it burns super hot and it's a great heat source but it's limited. Very slow growing tree that is now protected and illegal to harvest. I have a lot of old growth wood from an old barn. There's just not enough old growth wood around is the issue and when people have it they just tend to burn it and not realise how much it's worth. I'll happily send you some if you want. Cheers mate
what sort of oil or lacker do you use the most to treat the Buloke?? looks rely good, do you know if it would make for a good knife or axe handle? or is it so hard that it will break from chopping over time?
Hey mate, how much would the price of a square metre of Buloke be? Need the price for my year 12 woodwork portfolio, tried looking everywhere for a price to no avail
I am looking for some Buloke and Salmon gum for my Autistic son, but the red gun looks good as well (likes red and black) but unable to locate any Buloke or Salmon gum here in the US. do you think you could help?
@@wycheproofworkshops1192 Not a problem, family is important and without family many of us become unbalanced, not centered, grounded until much later in life. My son has things that he can stay busy with. I got him some wood that he is thinking as to make some fuji blanks from....one of my mentors will help him with that when this C-19 stuff is over....I wonder what will happen this fall when we get round 2 from C-19. The best case and most modern comparison would be the "SPANISH FLU" of 1918-1920....adjusting for population change this is like a regular flu season...my thought.
