He wanted to kill, he wanted harm to those women. He didn't want publicity and fame. Yes he wanted attention but not that way. He had a compulsion. And even then it's good to inform the public and newer generations about serial killers. Telling them that the world isn't always Peaches and Rainbows.

He's not attractive plus here are many people like him in the government alone, he's not special and women weren't all over him, he didn't have that many women in his life, maybe two and the majority of the women he slept with were dead and decapitated, most of his vicims were tricked and he killed while they were sleeping, they're just romanticizing him because they're sick too, no one cares when a white man kills a white women, it's "sexy" if he was brown the story wouldn't be about him being "hot" with the best pictures they can find of him.

It’s an aspect that contributes to his disorder. There are people who are sociopaths and psychopaths that don’t murder or do any harm. Ted was a melting pot of destruction growing up. Same with dahmer and gacy, if they would’ve have been given attention for their mental health earlier, this could have been prevented. This is why it’s serious to pay attention to ur kids mental being. This is often put to the side.

Ted Bundy got away with what he did for so long because of his looks and charm, plain and simple. He is a rather unorthodox example of why you don't judge a person based on their appearance.

Most horrible criminals DO have warning signs in their past, showing that they are mentally disturbed and may accelerate into horrible crimes, but people often ignore signs; families love their children and often ignore mental problems, and in time, that child will grow up, leave home, and pursue their evil crimes. Sometimes children will hurt pets, their siblings, there ARE often signs and people need to learn to recognize them and try to get mental help for that person. Sometimes teachers in school can see problems, so listen to them if they complain about a student's mis-deeds, it can lead to larger problems. Sometimes medications can help, behavior modification, other methods of help, but then, also, there are incorrigible types that it seems cannot be helped and those people NEED to be put away where they can't hurt others. (There are also some cases that have severe lack of parental control because the parents are also criminals, or alcoholics, or have other problems. Sometimes people walk a fine line between normalcy and criminal behavior, but there are USUALLY signs IF you know how to recognize them AND care enough to get them help before something terrible happens!)

Wherever he would be born, in whatever the circumstances, he would still be the same person. He still would find something to be enraged about. That's who he was. Most of people are born with characteristics that are necessary to build a society that helps the species to survive. There surely are reasons for individuals like Ted to exist, some would agrue it is a mistake or disorder. There's a place in our brain that is responsible for empathy, which in Ted's case might have been underdeveloped or developed differently. Such small changes in such a complex organ have significant repercussions, that can lead to extreme situations like we see in this case.

@@JennaRobertson How many lies have you told, and what do you call someone who lies? Have you ever stolen something, and what do you call someone who steals? Have you ever taken God’s name in vain (very serious; in Old Testament times, the Jews wouldn’t even say the name of God for fear of blasphemy) - even ‘OMG’? One more: Jesus said whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery in his heart; have you ever looked with lust? Well I’m not judging you - but if you’ve done these things then you’re a liar, thief, blasphemer and adulterer-at-heart; that’s how seriously God takes sin. He is Holy (perfectly good/righteous and separate from sin) which means that H e is perfect in justice - and if He were to judge you by the moral law (we’ve already looked at 4 commandments) would you be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? The answer is hell - the wrath of God upon you for your sin. Is that concerning? But fortunately, God’s will is not that you perish. He wants all men everywhere to be saved. So do you know what He did for us guilty sinners? In self-giving mercy, He sent His Son Jesus Christ. He lived the perfect life that we should have lived - tempted at all points and yet He NEVER sinned. Through His life, being in very nature God, He revealed God to men; but we in our hatred condemned Him to death. On that cross as Jesus suffered, He took on the sin of the world and was judged in our place; receiving God’s wrath. You and I broke God’s law, but Jesus paid the fine. God can justly forgive us. On that cross He died, then He was buried, but 3 days later He was raised from the dead - conquering death and Hell and ushering in The Kingdom of God. He then ascended to the right hand of God the Father (where He came from) now Lord of the living and the dead. God has fixed a date when He will judge the world in righteousness. What you need to do is repent (In humility, acknowledge your sin before God and turn to a relationship with Him) and trust ALONE in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross; and God will grant you the gift of the Holy Spirit. Then be baptised. When you place your trust in Jesus - the Lord and Saviour - these things will happen: 1) God will forgive the sins that you have committed; they were paid for by Jesus at the cross. 2) The perfect life that Jesus lived will be credited to you. He will find you holy and blameless on judgement day (and now), as Christ’s righteousness covers you. 3) You receive a place in Christ’s kingdom as an adopted child of God. God becomes your Father. Eternal life isn’t just about living forever, but a personal relationship with God Himself. That life can start now; The Father will reveal Himself to you if you seek Him. 4) God doesn’t just save you from the penalty of your sin (Hell). He can save you from the power of sin itself. Whoever practices sin is a slave of sin; but when you repent and believe the gospel [WHICH HAS BEEN DESCRIBED] the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you and sanctify you (working in you to further abandon sin and turn to the will of God). When the end of the age comes, and eternity begins, this work will be brought to completion as you are finally freed from the presence of sin. Jesus offers to take away your sin and to give you His righteousness; you must receive it by faith. Choose this day if you will align with the world, or with Jesus and His kingdom - only His is eternal. ROMANS 10:9 - If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. EPHESIANS 2:8-9 - For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no-one may boast

There weren't "two Bundys" there was one malignant narcissist who manipulated as needed. I doubt he was "empathetic and sympathetic" at any time. It's hard to say for sure as I knew who and what he'd done as I watched "The Bundy Tapes", but he seemed very narcissistic and was surprised how NOT exceptionally genius he was. He was lucky to have been murdering people back then. He'd have been caught exponentially sooner with today's criminal justice capabilities.

I have to agree with you, especially on your last point. The developments in not only forensic science and technology, but computer systems as well as the evolution of law enforcement agencies ability to communicate with each other would have had Bundy apprehended quickly.

You are correct, Erin. With today's advanced science and technology, surveillance is better, computers help a lot, forensics are far better, people MAY be more aware of other's behavior, and certainly DNA and the work of detectives is advanced; they have more tools and crimes are more apt to be solved. But people NEED to look out for themselves to PREVENT CRIMES, do not put yourself in a position to become a victim, be aware of your surroundings, any excessive (or even subtle) persuasive behavior of someone to talk you into doing something you feel is suspect, go out in groups, never alone, don't do drugs which can distort your thinking processes, don't drink excessively (murderers frequent bars also, looking for victims) and just be very aware of what goes on around you, be strong in your stance and you will be less likely to be a victim. Vicious criminals will look for an EASY subject, don't be one!

What the world sees and what happens on the “inside” are often two different things. Even people who are not serial killers. Who he showed himself to be to the majority of the world WAS seen as empathetic and sympathetic. He could put those traits on like a turtle-neck sweater and very few people, at the time (other than his victims) were introduced to the other person he was. People like him know how to play a role for their benefit. We NOW know about this other persona, but at the time … if you met him in a bar, you likely would have described him in similar terms.

Agreed, I found it disturbing that netflix cast an actor that was more attractive than Bundy was in real life. Too many females like the thrill of "potential" danger, not getting that these guys flip at the blink of an eye. An assailant can reach you in 1.4 seconds from 20 feet away.
@Bibo22
@Bibo22 5 лет назад
quasimobius the movie was actually based on the woman’s (ted bundy’s ex) perspective and experience with him. And it's not so much about the way they make the actor more ”attractive” but the way he was with people and women altogether. He was very manipulative which is why the movie/trailer is giving off that vibe or trust and ”love”. Ted Bundy isn't some fictional character from a book but a REAL person. That's why people were so edge with him being ”innocent” but in reality, he really wasn't. He showed people especially his ex in a way that he was ”normal”, ”romantic” etc... Remember a lot of people thought he was charming in a way and It's not that females like the thrill of potential danger either because let's are honest here, no woman really wants that and lets not characterize women like that as if they love physopaths. If you watch it, in the woman’s perspective it really shows how you shouldn't trust someone so quickly because at the end of the day you really don't know who that person is. He is a complete psychopath and he hid it well, for all we know he could've been our neighbor, friend or even family. That's what they were trying to show in the film.

Much of this is fiction by the media and a young true crime writer looking for something sensational. Ted was arrested at 29. He was flunking every legal course he had, didn't own a home, didn't have two kids and a wife, and didn't even own a decent vehicle. The idea that he was "ambitious." Not really. He was closing in on 30 with no real career behind him in an era where most 30-year-olds had already been married for 10 years and had a decade-long career behind him. Even the news media's charming young man stuff was concocted. He had few close friends and spent most of his time alone. He put makeup on corpses and had sex with them. He killed children. He was not a charmer. he was a kidnapper who pretended to be disabled so he could bash women over the head with a crowbar when their backs were turned or simply kidnap them while they were sleeping. For every one distracted teenager who went with the older man... there were a dozen that said he was "creepy" and "had beady eyes." Not to mention, at no point in the 70s was 27 the average college age. They probably thought he was a professor. They also tell the fictionalized version of his spiel: that he was "normal." He had burglary and auto theft on his juvenile record. He didn't have a real girlfriend until his mid-20s. His mother called him a "stranger to her" when someone called asking why he hadn't paid them back. Few people knew him. Mormons will talk to anyone. Those were mostly his friends in Utah. He spent most of his adult life driving around in a ratty VW bug, no real job, pretending he was "special" because he was a good kidnapper. It amazes me after all this time, people still buy this story, especially after listening to how creepy he is when he talks. He was smart... for a criminal. He was ambitious... for a criminal. And he was handsome... for a convict. All I can come up with is the 70s must havehad much lower standards. Dude had a unibrow.

I admire Florida for doing the job of removing this individual from the planet as a whole. I respect their system of justice in this case. This guy was as depraved as Hitler. Death was a reasonable punishment. He should be the benchmark for the death penalty though - there's too many low-level criminals dying that way, unnecessarily. Every person who does what Bundy did should die as a fair and decent punishment for the most evil and sick behaviour a person can ever do.
