Excited to open one of the Bunnahabhain's we picked up at the distillery. This limited release Eirigh Na Greine is intended for the travel retail market, matured in French and Italian red wine casks for quite an interesting version of Bunna' whisky!

Another good review Ben with some insightful and well detailed descriptions. Tried some excellent Bunnahabhain 12 last week in Edinburgh. I find the the location and the surrounding atmosphere really does affect the experience so much.

Absolutely, and the company! It's great fun to be out exploring and meeting new whisky people but already sets you up for an enjoyable experience 😉 The 12 year old is a cracking dram. Thanks Bill 😁🥃👍

Nice one Ben. I'm sure it will open up more with time. Or you could go to the seaside and drink it, maybe it needs a more maritime air, like on Islay, to appreciate it!

Haha maybe that's it. Jo has been suggesting we go to the beach and the weather's meant to be decent this weekend... 😉👍

Got a mate returning from a trip to Canada soon and offered to grab me a bottle duty free... was keen for a Talisker Dark Storm, but tempted to get this one. Decisions, decisions.

@WhiskyGeek 5 лет назад
Are you a fan of Talisker? I'd definitely take this one over the Dark Storm but I'm not typically the biggest fan of Talisker. Good decisions to have to make! 🥃👍

@@WhiskyGeek I have been in the past... has been awhile since I've had it though. I used to find it a bit hot and spicy, but that was in my early days of getting into Scotch. Last year when visiting a friend in Frankfurt I had a glass of his Talisker 10 and 18yo side by side for comparison and it was divine. The 10 is still strong upfront, but the aftertaste is beautiful. Maybe I should go to a bar and revisit some before the decision has to be made :P There are definitely worse decisions to be made ;)

Another great review. Maybe you should go back and re-try after six other drams. Just to re-create the distillery experience.

Haha, sounds like necessary 'research'! Have you had chance to try that Moine Oloroso yet? Cheers Phil 😁🥃👍

I'm not a fan of red wine either but I like what it does to whisky.

It seems to carry through the body and flavours without the vinegary & bitter punch for me. Funny how I find 60% whisky more palatable than 14% ABV wine 😜

You gotta do that Auchentoshan three wood we had the other day at some point man! That stuff was tasty!

Now that time has passed, has your opinion changed? Has it improved over time? I just bought it. It was either this or a Glen Garioch 12 that has been highly recommended to me. I don't know if I regret it.

Hi Ben. I'm a new here. Really enjoyed the review. I thought the graphic was particularly useful. I'm sure it has a name. I do like a good Bunna but am unlikely to access this one for obv retail reasons. Have subscribed. Cheers!

I guess it's a radar diagram flavour wheel 😅 This one is still relatively easy to find, can still pick it up from quite a few online retailers here in the UK. Cheers David 🥃👍

Cheers Andrew 🥃👍 Yeah I'm headed up to Tomatin in 2 weeks and possibly Deanston on the way back. I've still got a load of the Islay distilleries to edit together though! Caol Ila is part way done.

Nice video! :) What do you recommend to me this or An Cladach. I prefer the STIUIREADAIR over the 12 years. Chewy, nutty, and coastal, brine taste is what I am looking for exactly. Thanx! Cheers! :)
@WhiskyGeek
@WhiskyGeek 2 года назад
Hmm I don't remember the An Cladach 100% but think it is a truer continuation of the Stiuireadair - more sherry fruits present. Personally I really love the Stiui and this Eirigh na Greine too, don't think you'd be disappointed with whichever you went for 👍

Interesting, but me I'm still wondering (havin not had tasted the 12 yo for a long time now) which one of the 12 yo and the Stuireadair (damned that Gaelic writing isn't easy-apologies if I miswrite it!) should I go for in your opinion, Ben ?
@WhiskyGeek
@WhiskyGeek 5 лет назад
Go with the 12 or the 18 year old core expressions - I think they'll be more up your ally 😉🥃👍 Some of the peated Bunnahabhains are also really interesting if you feel like exploring further.

Thanks Ben...@@WhiskyGeek so far I'm so happy with the several indie I have 2 almost unpeated (rather sherried) & 2 heavily peated/bourbon matured that the OB's really struggle to catch my attention so far...but revisiting classics (the 12 yo for instance) is part of "our job", right ? 😉 Slainthe, Ben ! Nice review once again, I really enjoy your formula ( a little of editing, a little "live" tasting, some landscape, etc...) it works pretty well so far...
@WhiskyGeek
@WhiskyGeek 5 лет назад
@@GregsWhiskyGuide Much needed "research"! 😜 I'm yet to pick up any independent bottlings from Bunnahabhain but the couple of samples I've had were decent. These single casks from the distillery are pretty damn good too! Thanks Greg! 🥃👌

thanks mate, but what happend later when the bottle went down?
@WhiskyGeek
@WhiskyGeek 4 года назад
Still a work in progress 😉 I'm about 1/3 - 1/2 way through (dark glass makes it hard to tell) but it has been pretty consistent so far. If anything, the wine influence has become a touch sweeter but it's so marginal it may just be me! Cheers RedboRF 🥃👍

I tasted a 22 yo Bunnahabbain recently and was impressed by its penetrating aroma - right to the brain; almost overwhelming. Is this characteristic of all Bunnahahbbains?
@WhiskyGeek
@WhiskyGeek 4 года назад
Hi Jakob, They definitely do deliver a good aroma consistently, though some of their expressions are more delicate/elegant. The 12 & 25 year olds for example have a lot to explore but aren't quite 'penetrating'! The higher ABV of 46.3% would help to bring these aromas through to you boldly. That 22 year old sounds like a gem - was at an independent bottling?
@jakobw135
@jakobw135 4 года назад
@@WhiskyGeek Thanks for answering, Ben. The 22 yo in question was an original Bunnahabbain I experienced at a Whiskey tasting event. Do you have a Web site? Did you review : Tamdhu, Glencadam, Tobermory, Bladnoch, Balblair, Benromach and Isle of Arran? :-)
