I tasted this fig for the first time this year also. The birds were ravenous with this variety and ripped through bags to take the fruit last year and this year but finally left some for me. I tasted the same thing--virtually no berry notes and a strong caramel/brown sugar flavor that lingers. It's unique but definitely nowhere near a top-tier fig in my personal opinion.

I’m glad to hear we had the same conclusion. The one I tried on camera was actually a little better than some others off the same tree. The Pastiliere I got from you is ripening. It’s definitely peach flavored. I’ll be posting that video soon.

@@jesen84 Awesome! Thanks for sharing your tastings. Always interesting to hear an experienced fig grower share their perspective. Do you have a favorite variety?

@@EnlightenmentGarden Second that. EG's top fig lists are always helpful as a benchmark; would love to hear your top varieties as well. Thanks for the video.

If I could only keep one plant, it would be my Bordisott Blanca-Negra. It’s just so consistently good and ripens well even during our hottest periods. If I could keep a few more: Coll De Dama Rimada, Galicia Negra, Pastiliere, Red Lebanese Bekaa Valley, Sbayi, Martinenca Rimada … I’m happy to share cuttings of any you may be interested in.

@@jesen84 Ha. I was looking for confirmation bias about figs I'm already growing but will need to add a couple of those to the list. It's great to hear what's giving good results here in S. Arizona. The YLN I got from you a couple of years ago is one my earliest and most productive varieties.

Me too! It’s fun to learn the history behind the plants we grow.

Nice video I wonder if it’s a mount Edna type

Thanks! It’s definitely not a Mt. Etna type; the fruit and leaves are very different.
