Susanne Ortner plays George Lewis' iconic Burgundy Street Blues. Due to a lack of a god backing track, I try to "channel" George, and play along and try to catch as much as I can from his unique phrasing and feeling.
I play a Selmer 10S clarinet with wider tone holes for the fingers and metal keys not spaced as close as on her different system clarinet. Can she confirm this makes her fingering easier & quicker than on conventional Boehm system?
Thank you for your interest! I play a German system, often called Oehler system that is based on the Albert system - the one George Lewis played. Certain things are easier on my system, others are harder. I have less alternative fungering options, but nice rollers! :) The main difference lies in the overall sound of the different systems.
I have now noticed that you, Susanne , have a longer hand size and longer fingers which suit the distancing of of the tone holes (and keys ? ) on your instrument . It wouldn’t suit my hand measurements, but very compact construction and sound you produce so well
